Supervises, directs and provides basic care, security, safety and welfare to residents as required by the State of Michigan laws, Child Welfare Licensing requirements and applicable service standards as found in: Current Residential Master Contract, Program Manual, MDHS Services Manual Items 710-710 (Protective Services); and Items 910-912 (Placement Resources), Public Acts 238 (Child Protection Law) and its amendment, Public Act 372, Public Act 116 (Child Care Organization Licensing Act), and the Licensing Rules for Child Caring Institutions.


A. Reports directly to: Resident Supervisor


A. Education:

Minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent as defined by Child Welfare Licensing. Bachelors Degree in human services, or related field, preferred.

B. Experience:

One-year experience in a related human service field, preferably in a residential child caring institution.

C. Transportation:

Reliable and ongoing as required to provide transportation to youth. Valid unrestricted Michigan Drivers license. Good driving record.

D State of Michigan Licensing Requirements:

Satisfactory MDHS Central Registry Clearance and State Police Record Check. Negative TB test. Satisfactory physical exam within one year of hire.


1. Provides basic care, security and safety for residences by following established daily routines.

2. Provides supervision and direction to residents as they participate in daily living activities.

3. Implements DHS policies, guidelines and procedures as they relate to child care services, as stated in program manual, Child Welfare Licensing Manual, and Program Contract.

4. Offers each youth support, guidance and direction.

5. Encourage the development of good interpersonal relationships through program activities.

6. Acts as a good role model in relating to the residents.

7. Uses approved crisis intervention techniques whenever needed, including non- physical and physical intervention techniques.

8. Participates in team meeting to discuss behaviors, concerns or management of the residents.

9. Participated in planning special events and activities, as requested, and provides adequate supervision for such events.

10. Transports residents as needed to appointments or activities.

11. Notifies supervisor of all injuries and/or accidents sustained by any resident.

12. Completes incident reports for any unusual or particularly disruptive behavior presented by a resident.

13. Completes required program documentation which includes but is not limited to:

  • Communication Log
  • UIRs
  • Petty Cash
  • Detail Sheets
  • Individual Treatment Plans, Contracts
  • Medication Sheets
  • Study Hour Log
  • Van Log
  • Client Staffing Sheets/Data Collection Documents
  • Coordinator Tasks
  • Time Sheets

14. Completes household tasks according to the established schedule, or as requested by supervisor.

15. Assists, directs, and supervises residents as they participate in daily work assignments and chores.

16. Reports maintenance and repair needs regarding physical plant, equipment, and vehicles to supervisor.

17. Completes required training by attending workshops, seminars, conferences and in-service trainings as offered.

18. Follows emergency home procedures, (completes assigned drills) for fire, tornadoes, accidents, or other serious incidents affecting a residents welfare.

19. Completes assigned Task Coordinator duties, including monthly summaries.

20. Works with all Spectrum staff, Treatment Team member and other agency staff in a professional, cooperative and positive way.

21. Wears clothing suitable to working setting and activity.

22. Is able to work under stress, maintaining a positive approach to position and agency.

23. Complies with all Spectrum Personnel Policies and Procedures.

24. Complies with program/house manuals and procedures.

25. Completes all tasks and duties as assigned by Spectrum supervisory and administrative staff.

26. Complies with all client behavior contracts as established.

27. Uses work time appropriately, is punctual and is prepared to work at the time of reporting, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
