Unit Manager, Center for Petroleum, Energy & Technology - Central Campus

Essential Job Functions:
  • Works closely with the staff to establish an ongoing awareness and acceptance of our safety culture
  • Oversees and serves as focal point for CPET housekeeping audits
  • Troubleshoot problems in DCS and equipment
  • Maintain a safe working environment for faculty and students
  • Act as second faculty and split duties teaching on the GPP and glass lab for both credit and incumbent worker courses
  • Identify equipment failures and maintenance needs for GPP and glass lab


Additional Job Functions:
  • Write Work Orders and coordinate repairs with the SJCD maintenance department and 3rd party vendors
  • Write procedures and lessons plans for credit and incumbent worker programs
  • Coordinate maintenance activities for all CPET laboratories
  • Set up laboratories/equipment for credit and incumbent worker courses/classes
  • Facilitate coordination and communication of 3rd party and partner activities and training
  • Help schedule rooms and laboratories
  • Coordinate sampling and treatment for the cooling tower and boiler water chemistry
  • Maintain the Chemistry Lab in the Hunter Building
  • Safe work permits for the GPP


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be fully conversant in petrochemical operations.
  • Must have operator experience.
  • Must be fully functional on DCS interface and control board operations.
  • Must be comfortable and conversant on petrochemical systems operations. equipment identification and equipment function.
  • Must effectively demonstrate good mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Must have good conversational and written skills.
  • Must have ability to write, edit, and review lesson plans.
  • Must be able to read, follow, and edit operational procedures.


Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in a technical field from an accredited institution.

Required Experience:
  • 5+ years of operating experience for a chemical or refining operation. Work must include proficiency with operator control console and DCS, instrumentation calibration, and outside operator activity.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in a college learning environment that includes teaching, lesson plan development, and curriculum development.
  • Experience with electrical and craft trades is desirable.


Salary Grade: 26

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
