Undergrad Intern - Operations (Drug Product Technologies)

Let's do this. Let's change the world. During Amgen's 12-week remote internship program, you will be offered meaningful project experience that impact patients' lives! This internship within the Drug Product Technologies (DPT) department will give an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced SMEs to evaluate and enhance automated high throughput small molecule crystallization technologies and data management to enable real time changes in drug product development. This program will also provide the opportunities to interact and connect with the scientists from various functional areas at Amgen. At the close of the summer, a project summary with results and recommendations will be presented to DPT and Process Development members. The responsibilities for this position include:
  • Review the process for current high throughput protocols and data tracking with internal software.
  • Use R or Python to transform datasets into structured formats that enable upload into data analysis tool.
  • Create readable and insightful data visualizations in Spotfire/Tableau based on end user requirements.
  • Coordinate with group members to implement changes in data tracking, e.g. conduct testing for automated solutions.
  • Participate in team meetings to gain exposure to projects and processes related to automation development.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Informatics Science or related field.

Experience in R or Python programming language to pull and summarize data from data sources

Experience with data science/visualization tools

Knowledge and completion of course work in organic/analytical/physical chemistry

Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills

Strong project management skills, proficiency in logistic planning from beginning to end, priority setting, timely delivery of results, and multi-tasking

Ability to think critically, actively anticipate problems and propose solutions and to work effectively/collaboratively across teams.
