Engineering is part of Amgen's Operations organization but provides support across the entire company globally. Engineering contributes the technical expertise necessary to plan, innovate, build, operate, maintain, decommission and continuously improve the physical assets that enable Amgen to attain its vision. Engineering creates a competitive advantage for Amgen through strategic management of the life-cycle of its assets across the globe, enabling it to better serve patients.

Engineering is searching for an Undergrad Intern in our Capital Project department. This role will report to the Director of Capital Project Execution and Controls and will be based at Amgen's Rhode Island site. The Undergrad Intern will work closely with a team of Engineers supporting the construction and commissioning of a Next Generation Drug Substance Manufacturing Facility.

The specific duties include:
  • Develop and support key projects implementing use of data science/machine learning
  • Portray information related to projects using data visualization tools
  • Assist in generation of Capital Projects reports based on data from schedule, costs, and safety
  • Support the implementation of solutions of process improvement opportunities, special projects or initiatives


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time bachelor's program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Mathematics and/or Statistics
  • Have completed 3 years of college education
  • Enthusiastic about learning new concepts and work processes
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficient in Python and/or R
  • Good interpersonal, leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Well organized with efficient time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Skills in: collaboration, negotiation, basic project management, ensuring completion and follow up
  • Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Basic word processing, presentation and spreadsheet application skills
