Summer Camp Lead Instructor - CPD Aerospace Academy

Provide professional instruction for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) Aerospace Education summer camp classes (funded by NASA MUREP MAA) which will be offered 100% online. Applications for the NASA-funded summer camp instructor positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed if openings become available. Instructors employed as temporary, full-time during the summer are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees.

Chief responsibilities:
  • Take part in virtual training sessions prior to the start of the course and San Jacinto College instructor meetings as required.
  • Teach key concepts using a variety of formats: hands-on, direct instruction, group work and one-on-one with students using online curriculum provided by San Jacinto College's CPD-Aerospace Education department
  • Communicate and treat children, parents, and coworkers with respect
  • Maintain conducive learning environment within the classroom through effective classroom management skills
  • Assist with set up and clean-up of all related activities during the class
  • Administer and collect pre and post-tests and student surveys at the beginning and end of the class.
  • Fill out roster of daily attendance and submit to the Aerospace Education staff each week
  • Communicate quickly and regularly with Aerospace Education staff to solve any issues that arise
  • Other duties as required


Classes will take place as follows:

Middle school Summer Camps occur from June to July from 8am-4pm Monday-Thursday and 8-12 on Friday at San Jacinto College (online).

Salary Grade: Camp Lead Instructor

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with 1 or more years of formal academic teaching experience with youth OR 4 years of academic teaching experience with youth programs
  • Knowledge of STEM topics and space related activities to actively engage youth
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Information technology literacy skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Responsible, punctual, friendly, and enthusiastic
  • Be able to commit to teaching for 7-8 or more weeks
  • Must have own technology including computer, monitor, wifi, camera, speaker, etc...
  • Willing to undergo REQUIRED background check and training

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, science, technology, mathematics field
  • Teacher certification and experience teaching science, technology, or math is preferred
  • Four or more years of teaching academic courses for middle school students in a public or private ISD setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry, science, and engineering concepts
