Amgen is using cloud technology, DevSecOps frameworks, full-stack monitoring, and continuous deployment pipelines to build and operate new drug therapies for patients that address grievous illnesses. We are seeking a Sr Mgr Software Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) leader to fill a position in Amgen's newly built Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE) team. Our small product team is a high-energy, tight-knit group who builds our DevSecOps framework used globally by Amgen development teams.

This position focuses on taking your technical leadership skills, recruiting and hiring skills, and team building and cultural awareness skills to enable you to craft a growing and diverse SRE team. This team will drive new ways of operating Amgen's core software services through programmatic controls; the SRE team will operate applications ranging from its DevSecOps frameworks and automated pipelines to its FDA regulated services. You and your team will be responsible for transitioning Amgen's run operations from manual operations to automated operations in the cloud using programmatic controls. Our management frameworks are built using opensource products and AWS services. And finally, your team will collaborate closely with business and system owners to understand and operate their diverse business applications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Build a site reliability engineering test team and provide mentorship and leadership to SRE engineers while creating a new culture and team identity


  • Transform applications to use automated CI/CD pipelines and build secure cloud environments, identities, and services. Deploy applications into these cloud environments through automated processes and programmatic services.


  • Maintain application reliability and uptime SLAs throughout the application lifecycle using programmatic self-healing and software automation


  • Develop software to monitor and improve end-to-end platform performance, identify runtime deficiencies, find potential failures, and fix production issues through programmatic interfaces


  • Improve the durability, simplicity, performance, and maintainability of our integrated landscape


  • Be an integral member of the core DevSecOps/DataOps development team and help develop, test, deploy, and operated the service 24x7x365 globally.


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of related experience

Or

Master's degree and 4 years' related experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience

Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of related experience

Or

High School Diploma / GED and 12 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in computer science or related field
  • 5+ years working in automated and programmatic SRE environments operating software through continuous development lifecycles
  • 3+ years leading and running SRE teams. Successful experience recruiting and hiring top talent.
  • Experience transitioning teams and applications from using traditional, manual operations to using automated, programmatic operations
  • Proficient using two or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: Java, C, C++, Swift/Objective C, Python, Go, C#, or JavaScript
  • Experience using full stack monitoring including infrastructure cloud services (Storage, VMs, Network, etc.) as well as operating applications in a continuous CI/CD pipeline environment
  • Knowledge of Docker containerization and Kubernetes/EKS cluster management for container orchestration
  • Familiarity of automated monitoring frameworks such as InfluxDB, Grafana, Telegraf, Fluentd, Kapacitor, etc.
  • Familiarity operating serverless computing and microservice based applications a plus
