Sr Manager/Associate Director, Accounting




PacBio is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Manager, Accounting to join our growing accounting team.  This position will be based in San Diego or Menlo Park, CA, reporting to the Director, Accounting. This position will own the financial close process and support all areas of PacBios financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness. The ideal candidate will have operational experience in a variety of areas including the financial close processes, controls/SOX, reviews, systems, and project management. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, have a strong work ethic, be committed to continuous learning and improvement, and will have a desire to drive change.   




Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for the completion of the monthly close activities, including monitoring to ensure all close activities are completed in accordance with the close calendar as well as reporting on the status of the close to key stakeholders and ensures issues are resolved timely. 

  • Identify and actively partner with cross-functional stakeholders to optimize the close process to deliver accurate and timely results.      

  • Review manual journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with the Companys policies, procedures and controls.  

  • Responsible for oversight of the consolidation of foreign subsidiaries as well as third-party accounting service providers that perform accounting and tax services for the Companys foreign subsidiaries, including the review and approval of the monthly financial reporting packages, accuracy of the reported results and compliance with statutory reporting requirements. 

  • Oversee and provide leadership to the accounting team responsible for the general accounting for the Company, including, but not limited to, cash, investments, intercompany, fixed assets, assets under construction, intangible assets, accrued liabilities, accounting reserves, lease accounting and stock-based compensation.  

  • Prepare presentations and communicate with senior leadership

  • Manage the SOX processes and controls within assigned area of responsibility; actively identify any gaps or new controls required and take action to remediate deficiencies.

  • Research new accounting pronouncements, prepare technical accounting memos, and provide implementation recommendations, as needed.

  • Act as primary contact for internal and external auditors to coordinate and manage audit requests and provide deliverables.

  • Create and maintain accounting policy and procedural documentation

  • Lead resourcing talent and diversity, driving all parts of the hiring and development process.

  • Drive continuous improvement and standardization of reporting and analytical processes and lead implementation projects to drive productivity and efficiency.



 


Requirements:



  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience; 3 years of public accounting experience preferred.

  • Advanced MS Excel and strong understanding of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat skills are required.

  • SAP experience is strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of and experience with SOX.

  • Ability to learn quickly and multi-task in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.

  • Robust problem-solving and analytical skills with a desire to champion projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including written communication, to establish and maintain strong working relationships and effective interactions across functional areas.

  • Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • CPA designation strongly preferred, Masters degree a plus.
