Biologics Optimization is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join the Protein Engineering Group at our state-of-the-art research facility at the Amgen headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA (ATO). The Biologics Optimization group is responsible for the optimization, production, assessment, and selection of large therapeutic drug candidates, with many of the molecules of interest being complex biologics.

The Protein Engineering group is responsible for the design and generation of novel and complex scaffold molecules, often antibody-based, that are part of the next generation of the large molecules therapeutics. The Senior Associate Scientist will be a part of a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression, purification and characterization of large molecule drug candidate.

Position Responsibilities

Perform purification and analytics of Multispecific Antibodies

Act as a scientific leader with the ability to drive innovation, lead projects, and work independently and in cross-functional teams

Develop and implement innovative technologies to improve efficiency and speed of the processes in the biologics optimization organization

Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate or Master's with 3+ years relevant experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting with a background in Biochemistry, Structured Biology or closely related field

Proficiency and experience in protein purification techniques (affinity purification, ion exchange chromatography, hydrophobic interaction chromatography, SEC, ultrafiltration) and analytical techniques (HPLC, MCE, LCMS, SDS-PAGE, Western etc.)

A strong track record of research accomplishments in protein purification is preferred.

Experience in laboratory techniques supporting structural biology and molecular biology.

Understanding of protein biophysical and biochemical properties that relate to molecule structure

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment
