The Senior Associate Paralegal role may be located at Amgen's corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California, or at Amgen's South San Francisco site, or as a remote-based role.

The Senior Associate Paralegal provides clinical trial-related contracting support to the Research and Development group within the company (specifically, Global Development Operations, Global Site Operations, Therapeutic Area teams). This position drafts and negotiates a variety of clinical trial-related, data sharing, and research-related contracts and supports the development of resources (including systems, templates, negotiation guides, and training materials) useful in clinical law. This position also supports regional contract negotiation escalations, reviews subject recruitment materials, informed consent issues and other relevant clinical contracting issues.

Job Responsibilities

Working under general direction and supervision of an attorney or paralegal to provide legal support on a wide array of clinical contracting issues

Performing research on laws, regulations, and industry developments affecting the clinical and contracting issues

Providing legal services of moderate to comprehensive scope and complexity

Drafting and negotiating high volume of contracts in time sensitive environment

Communicating (written and orally) with internal clients and external parties

Creating, supporting and delivering training in defined areas

Undertaking special projects as assigned

Working in relevant systems and with relevant processes

Understanding and complying with all relevant procedures and policies

Basic Qualifications

Master's Degree

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of legal experience

OR

Associate's Degree and 6 years of legal experience

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of legal experience

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program

Superior verbal and written communication skills

Superior ability to exercise thoughtful judgment and discretion in a high-pressure environment

Demonstrated ability to understand and work within defined work streams

Strong computer literacy (including Microsoft Office) and ability to learn specialized computer programs (e.g. work flow/tracking programs)
