Sr Accounting Specialist - District Office

Essential Job Functions:

  • Post journal vouchers for:
  • Interest income
  • Bank transfers
  • Credit card transactions
  • Credit card discount fees
  • Bank fees
  • Tax deposits
  • Change in investment fair market value
  • State allocation
  • Prepaid expenses
  • Financial aid monthly entries
  • Departmental chargebacks
  • Review appropriate accounts for coding and complete correction transfers


    • Review bookstore charges for accuracy
    • Act as liaison between the Business Office and the Childcare Centers
    • Process billing for childcare charges
    • Review childcare contracts for accuracy and compliance with College policies and post to the childcare system.
    • Perform A/R and A/P account reconciliations
    • Calculate, review, and file sales taxes
    • Review and process worker's comp transactions
    • Run deferred revenue reports, review for accuracy, and post related journal vouchers (April-August )


    Additional Job Functions:
    • Process check stop pay, reissue, and reapply requests (as backup for co-worker)
    • Assist Auxiliary/Financial Aid Accountant as necessary\t
    • Fulfill cashiering functions at the Campus Business Offices during peak registration periods\t
    • Other duties as assigned


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Posses a solid understanding of accounting basics and have the ability to analyze financial transactions
    • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards with minimal supervision within the assigned time frame
    • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; especially with regards to sensitive or confidential personnel or organizational matters
    • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to relate well to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner
    • Ability to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity
    • Ability to recognize quickly the details of new assignments or problems
    • Ability to independently read and interpret processes and procedures documentation
    • Ability to write reports, memos, requests, and general correspondence
    • Ability to perform math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, various statistical calculations, and 10-key by touch
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Demonstrate high proficiency with MS Excel
    • Ability to adhere to college values
    • Ability to work beyond scheduled hours when required


    Required Education:
    • High School Diploma or GED

    Preferred Education:
    • AA degree in accounting or related field preferred.

    Required Experience:
    • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in a higher education environment.


    Salary Grade: 16
