We are seeking a strong Sr. Software Engineer - Automation lead to work with our team to deliver the best software solutions to our innovative and industry-leading business partners in Amgen's patient safety function.

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and support of software solutions. The candidate must be experienced in advanced programming in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Robotic Processing Automation (RPA) technologies. The individual will collaborate with data scientist, architects, business analyst's, business and IT teams to build software applications that create new capabilities for business clients. The individual must be hands on contributor in the SDLC, performing analysis/design and influencing development team to achieve project goals.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Partner with clients and technical teams to deliver on strategic automation and process improvements initiatives
  • Define architectural approach using a blend of AI, ML, NLP, RPA and engineer solutions including application architecture, technology selection, design configuration, and definition of solution that meets business requirements
  • Manage portfolio related financials including securing funds, forecasting, resource planning and execution
  • Develop and socialize with business on automation strategy, roadmap and architecture
  • Must have good communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, analytical and presentation skills
  • Keep up to date on market trends and developments in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and related new technologies to provide recommendations and deliver standard methodology solutions
  • Work closely with the enterprise architects and platform teams to ensure that the applications are aligned with the overall architectural and development guidelines
  • Mentor or provide technical training to team members
  • Must be able to think and act strategically, and operationalize the solutions


Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree
  • OR
  • Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • High school diploma/GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Visualization tools like Tableau or Spotfire
  • Experience with Text Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Pattern Recognition
  • Experience with RPA tools like Automation Anywhere or UiPath
  • High learning agility, innovation and analytical skills
  • Strong DevOps focus and experience building and deploying software solutions using Git or SVN
  • Programming experience with a couple of programming language Java, R, HTML, Python, C, or C++ (preferably Python).
  • Proficient with relational and No SQL database concepts, system architecture and data structures
  • Expert in writing SQL (e.g. PL/SQL)
  • Understanding business objectives, architecting, and developing models that help to achieve them, along with metrics to track their progress
  • Analyzing ML/ NLP/RPA algorithms that have the potential to solve a given problem and ranking them by their success probability
  • Exploring and visualizing data to gain an understanding of it, then identifying differences in data distribution that could affect performance when deploying the model in the real world
  • Verifying data quality, and/or ensuring it via data cleaning
  • Experience with working with validated systems (e.g. GxP)
  • Experience with previous roles in pharma or life sciences industry
  • Training models and tuning their hyper-parameters to improve performance
