The Senior Wastewater Control Inspector provides lead direction to a staff of Inspectors, manages projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and provides support to other East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) work groups and outside agencies. This position will be primarily responsible for supporting EBMUD’s Private Sewer Lateral (PSL) program and providing lead direction to a group of Wastewater Control Inspectors (Inspectors).

Typical duties include:
• Planning, scheduling, reviewing, tracking, and providing lead support for the work of Inspectors engaged in PSL inspections, which includes witnessing PSL pressure tests.
• Compiling, entering, and analyzing data.
• Reviewing inspection reports, assessing inspection fees, and performing PSL inspections.
• Preparing and reviewing technical documents including required periodic and special compliance reports, written, oral, tabular, and graphic reports requiring calculations, and project assignment status and outcome reports.
• Remaining abreast of regulations, treatment, sampling, and monitoring technology.
• Training assigned employees and demonstrating how to apply equipment and work techniques.
• Explaining EBMUD's ordinances and applicable laws, codes, and procedures to Inspectors, stakeholders, and the public.
• Providing field direction and expertise to other EBMUD work units.
• Providing coverage for other Senior Wastewater Control Inspectors as needed for support of the pretreatment program, resource recovery program, and other related inspection, investigation, and sampling efforts.
• Assisting the unit supervisor with employee performance evaluations, work plan evaluation and development to improve the section’s work processes including safety effectiveness, equipment evaluation, procurement, assignment and tracking, determining section priorities and work schedules, preparing, monitoring and reporting the section budget.

The salary range is $8,875 per month increasing to $9,319, $9,785, $10,274 and $10,788 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

1. Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent.
2a. Three years of experience* in work providing a knowledge of wastewater treatment processes OR
2b. Two years of experience* in the inspection of commercial or industrial wastewater discharges equivalent to EBMUD’s Wastewater Control Inspector class.
3. Possession of a valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Must possess the physical capacity to perform the critical and important duties of the class including sufficient strength to move manhole covers weighing 60 pounds and sufficient swimming ability to remain afloat fully clothed for at least five minutes. May be required to be clean shaven on a scheduled basis as required to wear respiratory protection equipment and a willingness to work overtime as needed.

*A BA/BS in a related field may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
