The Department of Inflammation and Oncology Research is seeking a creative, accomplished scientific leader to discover and develop novel therapies for cancer.

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Scientist will be as a team leader and manager of laboratory scientists developing innovative strategies to impact challenging targets in oncology and immuno-oncology. The successful candidate will supervise research associates to support novel oncology target discovery and validation, as well as the evaluation of potential therapeutics. The Senior Scientist will establish therapeutic hypotheses and design experimental validation strategies. In addition, they will lead cross-functional project teams and will set project strategy, goals and timelines, evaluate team performance, and inform department leadership. The Senior Scientist will also participate in setting departmental goals and strategy and will represent the department in various cross-functional activities, including academic collaborations, external research evaluations, project teams, and scientific committees. The Senior Scientist will also be expected to contribute to the scientific community through conference presentations and publications.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience

OR

Master's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 7 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 7+ years of scientific experience

7+ years of experience leading a research program

Broad knowledge of cancer and cellular biology with demonstrated independent research eminence through first author publications in top journals

Specific expertise and a record of publication in oncology target discovery and evaluation, therapeutic screening and development, as well as biomarker identification and validation

Research experience with biochemical, molecular and cellular techniques, including enzyme and cell assay development, characterization of protein modifications, CRISPR technology, and gene expression profiling

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Prior experience managing or mentoring other scientists

Flexibility to work in teams to achieve changing project goals and meet timelines
