Observational Research (OR) makes important contributions to drug development, commercialization and safety evaluation. Observational Research contributes evidence regarding the frequency and distribution of disease, the natural history and clinical burden of disease, the design of clinical trials, cost and utilization patterns and the safety and effectiveness of therapies. There is increasing demand for information from OR studies by regulatory and reimbursement authorities. The Center for Observational Research (CfOR) was created to address this imperative. A CfOR Senior Manager is recognized as a strong scientific contributor and is a first or contributing author for papers in peer reviewed journals or for internal reports that enhance the company's mission.

The Observational Research Senior Manager:
  • Conducts epidemiologic research including retrospective and prospective studies to support pipeline and marketed products
  • Makes significant contributions to the scientific direction of a product and/or specific projects
  • Demonstrates creativity and independent thought in applying technical solutions to methodologic issues
  • Is recognized as a scientific contributor
  • Is first or contributing author on study protocols, statistical analysis plans and internal reports that enhance the company's mission
  • Contributes to or leads papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
  • Conducts research to the highest standards of the profession
  • Aligns research with global and/or regional product team strategies
  • Participates in initiatives to improve processes/capabilities within the Center for Observational Research (CfOR)


Key Activities:
  • Responsible for conducting high-quality research to support epidemiologic questions from development and medical affairs
  • Defends the methods, data sources, and inputs into observational studies
  • Explains disease state epidemiology and treatment landscapes
  • Develops deep understanding of commercial product strategy to help shape patient research and analysis
  • Helps shape scenarios around evolving treatment landscapes in the market
  • Contributes to 'lessons learned' discussions post-product launch
  • Promotes epidemiologic awareness with cross-functional partners
  • Supports relationship with key leaders in observational research
  • Promotes understanding within CfOR of commercial implications to R&D activities
  • Communicates significant scientific information to a variety of audiences
  • Contributes to a CfOR therapeutic area
  • Sets annual product-specific and personal goals
  • Provides input into CfOR department meetings


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate Degree and 2 years of Scientific experience
OR
Master's Degree and 6 years of Scientific experience
OR
Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of Scientific experience
OR
Associate's Degree and 10 years of Scientific experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Epidemiology or other subject with high observational research content
  • 3+ years' experience with Medical or Doctorate degree
  • Experience in the design, execution, and analysis of observation research studies within Pharmaceutical or Public Health setting
  • Experience in research to support drug development
  • Experience in observational research project planning and management
  • Experience communicating observational research information (written and oral)
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
