About the position:

The Senior Manager, Best Bet Services is a new role focused on building, managing, and sustaining high quality postsecondary and career navigation systems within the public K-20 education sector. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director, Best Bet Services at JFFLabs.

The Senior Manager will be an integral part of the Best Bet team at JFF, working closely with team members and the Director to lead large-scale postsecondary and career readiness and navigation initiatives for systems serving young people from low-income backgrounds. The Senior Manager will also play a key role working internally throughout JFF to support the development of navigation services within the context of both education and workforce to improve economic mobility. for those currently underserved by education and workforce, including people of color and/or people located in low-economic opportunity communities.

A background in overseeing federal contracts is important, but not required. Over half of the Senior Managers time will be devoted to working with the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Job Corps. Currently, JFF oversees the integration of the MyPACE system, which includes an online career planning platform used by over 35,000 16-22 year old's annually. The system has been implemented in 120 centers across the nation and currently, Job Corps centers are operationalizing MyPACE with technical assistance from the JFF team and sub-contractors. The Senior Manager will play an important role in managing sub-contractors, vendors, consultants in service of the goals of the project.

What youll do:

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Project Management: Manage the MyPACE Team as well as other Best Bet/Career Navigation opportunities.
  • Sub-Contractor and Vendor Management: Work with sub-contractors and vendors to ensure they are delivering services within scope and budget
  • Client Management: Work closely with National Deputy Director-level staff within the Office of Job Corps, as well as high-level clients as part of business strategy and development
  • Business Development: With support from the Senior Director, help build a repeatable, effective business development approach for our Advisory Services practice. Contribute to pipeline development and build compelling proposals.
  • Practice Excellence: Help to evolve and maintain a set of rigorous processes that support continuous learning and improvement for the Best Bet/Career Navigation work within JFF Labs.
  • Content Development: Conceive of and develop highly compelling original collateral i.e., case studies, briefs, frameworks, tools/resources, etc. that will drive student success impact and improved utilization of career navigation principles and technology in the field.
  • Meeting Design and Facilitation: Collaborate with and support the Best Bets team on the development and facilitation of a range of meetings, workshops, and collaborative/consultative sessions with both current federal clients as well as other clients/users.

Who you are:

You demonstrate the ability to identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement, develop new or optimize current operating models for how work is delivered, and build stakeholder buy-in for your recommendations. You can communicate technology concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, and can quickly speak the language of different stakeholders, including education practitioners, administrators, tech vendors, contractors, as well as comfortably work within compliance-driven systems as an innovator who centers equity. You have 5+ years of client management experience with 5+ years of experience managing complex projects that require problem-solving and analysis.

Experienced Education and Training Practitioner

  • You have prior experience designing and implementing methods and approaches that ensure strong career outcomes for all learners in both traditional and non-traditional postsecondary settings, including approaches that close existing equity gaps.
  • You bring experience leveraging labor market information and collaboration with stakeholders to drive design and implementation of program models, curriculum, instructional design and assessment.
  • You are familiar with college and workforce development data systems and analysis.
  • You are skilled in instructional and training design and non-traditional learning models such as work-based, competency-based and/or online and hybrid learning; you have a nuanced understanding of issues of economic mobility and economic development.
  • You are an expert at defining program outcomes, mapping competencies and assessments to curriculum, and creating learning supports.
  • You are an expert facilitator of short- and long-term engagements and events with numerous stakeholders in complex settings.
  • You are recognized as a dynamic facilitator; you can persuasively and efficiently build and deliver professional development and other presentations for senior executives, faculty, and more.

Strategic Builder and Analytical Thinker

  • You are an innovative and entrepreneurial systems builder, with experience pushing boundaries and identifying new, revenue-generating opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • You know how to connect the dots in order to drive strategy, even when theres ambiguity; you are a curious and adaptive learner, with a willingness to take in new information, perspectives and data to inform your work.
  • You have a track record of success developing service lines, consulting approaches and/or products (tools, resources) that meet a variety of clients needs.
  • You have experience working in a federal contract context -- having developed project scopes of work tailored to the specific needs of federal clients.
  • You have experience engaging with or advising on successful leadership development and change management efforts.
