Amgen's Center for Design and Analysis (CfDA) develops innovative and fit-for-purpose analytical strategies while anticipating and finding opportunities for analytics to support novel study designs and targeted identification of operational risks.

Amgen's CfDA has exciting career opportunities for senior level data scientists to turn data requirements into analytic techniques that produce data pipelines, develop innovative and effective approaches to solve analytics challenges, communicating results and methodologies as well as recommending improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings and new information.

The Senior Data Scientist will deliver targeted analytics through:
  • Identifying available and relevant internal and external data sources and utilizing new data collection processes.
  • Leveraging modern computational (Kubernetes, Databricks) and analytics (R, Python) platforms.
  • Understanding business needs and customer requirements and challenges and partnering with CfDA leadership to make key design decisions and provide thought leadership.
  • Communicating requirements and overarching data science objectives.
  • Collaborating with study teams and other partners to equip staff with compelling information and evidence to make data first decisions.
  • Identifying supportive technologies and new data sources.
  • Applying advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain and improve multiple real-time decision systems.
  • Partnering with data stewards in continuous improvement processes impacting data quality.


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Data Sciences experience

OR

Master's degree and 6years ofData Sciences experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years ofData Sciences experience

OR

Associates' degree and 10 years ofData Sciences experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Data Sciences experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or related quantitative field.
  • Six or more years experience in clinical research and/or predictive analytics.
  • Experience deploying predictive models using 'omics data.
  • Strong statistics and programming background with proven experience delivering on data science and machine learning projects, preferably with Bayesian and deep learning approaches.
  • Applying NLP and machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with variety of data analysis and modeling methods systems: Unsupervised (PCA, K-Means), Supervised (Linear/Logistic Regression, PLS, Deep Learning), Bayesian, Fourier/Laplace.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, R and HDFS.
  • Understanding of the biological domain that includes a background in biotechnology processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and good software practices (version control, continuous integration, test driven development).
  • Strong communication, organizational and project leadership skills.
  • Proven background in client engagement, preferably in a scientific/biological environment and in developing data science/machine learning and other software solutions.
