We are seeking a Senior Associate Scientist with technical expertise in the design and execution of fermentation experiments. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of fermentation science and bench scale process control systems. We are specifically seeking an energetic, creative, and highly self-motivated individual that enjoys technical challenges and has a passion for continuous improvement. The successful candidate will interact closely with molecular biologists, other fermentation scientists, and analytical chemists. Additionally, he or she will mentor lab staff in technical troubleshooting, new process experiments and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
    • Ensure continuous operational readiness of the laboratory.
    • Collaborate on experimental design using data to influence project direction.
    • Execute fermentation experiments as planned
    • Conduct root cause analysis of unexpected experimental results and execute solutions.
    • Evaluate and maintain fermentation data in the databases
    • Solves advanced equipment/software failures.
    • Independently design experiments to optimize assays, procedures, and protocols.
    • Maintain safe practices and work environment.
    • Weekend work is mandatory.
    • Occasional overtime is required.
    • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree in biology, life sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical engineering or related field and 8 yrs of work experience, or Master's Degree and 5 years of work experience in a Research Operations setting.
    • Demonstrate expertise on bench scale fermentation systems.
    • Knowledge of project management tools is desired.
    • Proficient in statistical tools to analyze data (Excel, JMP, R, Spotfire) and manufacturing principles such as 5S and Lean.
    • Strong communication skills including presenting results and research, preparing technical reports and writing SOPs.
    • Capability to manage multiple independent processes and experiments within a single day including scheduling instrumentation and preparing reagents and material.
    • Attention to detail and careful record keeping skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead others in area of expertise, team player and collaborator both within and across functional boundaries
    • Tenacity in pursuing objectives to completion correctly and on time.
