Amgen's Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking a highly motivated and capable individual to join the Research Materials Management group in the Thousand Oaks CA research site. In this role you will be a bench scientist that contributes hands-on to our compound management efforts in support of Amgen's drug discovery pipeline. The position focuses on the storage and distribution of novel small molecules and biologics.

Position Responsibilities

Inventory software systems - Personal Inventory Manager
  • Train new users and develop new training material as needed
  • Expand outreach to functional areas through collaborations
  • Assist staff with data management of lab-based substances
  • Serve as primary contact for resolving and investigating issues


Biologics submission and order processing management

  • Incorporate new material into centralized inventory
  • Manage centralized biologics inventory and freezers
  • Process requests for biologics


Lab operations quality assurance and solids processing subject matter expert

  • Train solids processing technicians
  • Serve as primary contact for resolving and investigating issues


Shipping logistics operations management

  • Prepare shipping manifests for domestic and international shipments
  • Coordinate with Import/Export office and shipper


Support Lab Automation

  • First line of support for automation, instruments, and software used in solids processing and liquid replenishment processes (Mettler Toledo, Tecan, Agilent, REMP, Mosaic)


Basic Qualifications

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of scientific experience

Or

Associate's degree and 6 years scientific experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 8 years scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or related discipline
  • 5+ years of compound management experience in a drug discovery setting
  • Extensive experience with inventory management software, preferably Titian's Mosaic
  • Proficiency with operating, implementing and troubleshooting laboratory automation
  • Familiarity with international shipping procedures
  • Ability to build, prioritize, and coordinate work plans and adhere to timelines
  • Excellence in communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
