Amgen's Research and Development (R&D) Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools and processes. The team delivers on key initiatives and provides strategic and tactical support to ensure R&D scientists and staff receive the information, goods and services they require, strong analytic support, and management of external partners through robust supplier oversight and governance programs. The Senior Associate, R&D Operations supports portfolio and scientific project management and will be responsible for contributing to cross- functional, complex projects aimed at executing R&D strategy. The Senior Associate is a continuous improvement and analytical champion that executes projects across R&D, including but not limited to, decision science, resource management, portfolio progression, and risk management. As a creative problem solver with a get it done approach, responsibilities include:
  • Collecting, curating and organizing scientific and business data
  • Partnering with project and functional leaders to coordinate designated projects; includes assimilating information, planning, tracking and documenting progress, etc
  • Using Agile and Lean methodologies to participate in or contribute to productivity initiatives that benefit R&D and optimize business processes.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree


Bachelor's degree and 2 years of pre-clinical and/or research experience


Associate's degree and 6 years of pre-clinical and/or research experience


High school diploma / GED and 8 years of pre-clinical and/or research experience

Preferred Requirements
  • Degree in biology, life sciences, health, medical or clinical sciences along with additional education in finance or business.
  • Familiarity with research and clinical development in biopharmaceutical industry as well as medical and scientific terminology.
  • Experience with analytics software (Microsoft Access, SPSS, Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working with virtual teams and using collaborative tools and platforms. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a matrixed team and dynamic environment
  • Strong planning and project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects and minimal supervision.
  • Being able to adapt work and communication styles to meet organization needs.
