Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Defines and maintains access control to all areas in the museum, including its off-site facility. Implements communication procedures, use of radios, alarm systems, and planning and testing of emergency procedures. This includes procedure development, testing of equipment such as fire extinguishers, and periodic staff training on emergency procedures, as well as consistently regularly monitoring the HVAC system. Communicates with managing staff on the building's performance and coordinates closely with the Visitor Services Manager. Communicates with campus and community providers, including safety and security, campus facilities, operations, management personnel, and local fire and police departments about specifics of museum security system. Serves as member of the College's emergency preparedness team. - 25%
  • Trains, on an ongoing basis, all visitor services guides to open, close, and control access to museum facilities to assure the security of the collection, including assisting in shipping and receiving when necessary. Responds, and trains guides to respond, to building security alerts, ensuring that a proper response is undertaken and proper security system operation is maintained. Responsible for ensuring that the guides are properly trained on life safety (including AEDs) issues and ADA accessibility issues, including maintenance of equipment. - 25%
  • Responsible for the maintenance and appearance of the facility. Conducts daily inspections of all spaces to ensure an impeccable museum facility and adequate systems performance. Supervises the work of the museum's custodian, contractors, and facilities crews. Communicates with external providers and relevant museum staff. Manages all vendor contracts associated with structure maintenance and operations, including custodial, fire detection and protection, elevators, HVAC , security, audio/visual, electrical, and mechanical. - 20%
  • Serves as security staff backup as needed, and frequently present during business or special event hours, including on weekends. - 10%
  • Participates regularly in exhibitions/external relations/events team meetings. Attends events both during and after regular business hours to ensure security of facility is maintained. Assists with setup and breakdown of events. - 5%
  • Regularly updates, maintains, and distributes building maintenance and operations policies, manuals, and reference documents. Creates, maintains, and distributes disaster plan for the museum. Maintains and distributes the museum policy about visitor and art safety issues. - 5%
  • Researches, develops, and applies leading industry practices in museum security. Stays current on security system technology and art theft activity. - 5%
