The department of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND (Investigational New Drug) and NDA(New Drug Application) filings.

Job Description

The primary responsibility of a PKDM Scientist will be to routinely test the cytochrome P450 (CYP) induction potential of small molecule drug candidates using primary human hepatocytes and measuring the resulting transcript levels with test article treatment relative to prototypical inducers. The role will require data interpretation and communication of results to project team representatives in support of drug discovery and development.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to execute experiments to quantitate CYP induction by in vitro assay in support of both drug discovery and early development programs. This role requires an excellent understanding of preclinical ADME, drug metabolizing enzyme transcriptional regulation, and molecular pharmacology techniques and an individual that can work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment. The candidate will work as a member of the small molecule ADME group and will be responsible for cell culture of primary human hepatocytes and human hepatocyte-derived cell lines to execute induction screening. Other responsibilities will include basic biochemistry research, electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.

The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to excel in a highly collaborative, matrixed team environment.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degreeby December 2020
OR
Master's degree and 4 years of Scientific Experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Scientific Experience
