Biologics Optimization is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Protein Chemistry Group at our state-of-the-art research facility at the Amgen headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA (ATO). The Biologics Optimization department is responsible for the optimization, production, assessment, and selection of large molecule therapeutic drug candidates, with many of the molecules of interest being complex biologics.

The Protein Chemistry group is primarily responsible for the purification and analytical assessment of novel and complex scaffold molecules, often antibody-based, that will be the next generation of large molecules therapeutics. The Protein Chemistry Scientist will be a part of a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, purification and characterization of large molecule drug candidates with a heavy focus on purification and characterization.

The successful candidate will be a scientific leader with the ability to drive innovation, lead projects and teams, solve complex technical problems and work independently as well as in cross-functional teams. This individual will also be innovative in developing methodologies that enhance protein chemistry capabilities, reduce cycle time, increase throughput and improve the quality of our lead molecules. The Scientist will be able to interpret and report scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings. Good written and oral presentation skills are a must.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2+ years Postdoctoral experience

Ability to multi-task and work flexibly with a high sense of urgency in a cross-functional highly matrixed team environment

Expertise in purification of complex engineered large molecules

Expertise in advanced protein characterization and analytical techniques

Knowledge in high through-put purification of large engineered panels of biologics molecules

Ability to multi-task and work flexibly with a high sense of urgency in a cross-functional team environment

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research

exemplified by a strong publication and or patent record

Knowledge in cloning, protein engineering and mammalian cell protein expression is a plus

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
