Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Aesculap's internship program provides an exciting opportunity for participants to have hands on Research & Development experience in the growing medical device field. Intern will be responsible for engineering team support, R&D projects, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Works with Marketing Staff, production staff, engineering and R & D Director to support with all general activities relating to the design of a product from conception to finished product.
  • Performs calculations, stress analysis and materials research.
  • Draft Test Protocols, conduct tests and draft test reports
  • Perform set/tray builds for MPE/Limited Launch
  • Creates 3D models in CATIA V5 .
  • Create 2D drawings from 3D models.
  • Dimension, tolerance assemblies using standards
  • Performs target cost and risk (FMEA) analyses.
  • Works to quality system regulation design control documents.
  • Perform/assist literature searches for patentability and/or freedom to operate for medical devices.
  • Prepares and presents end of summer internship presentation to Executive Team.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • This position requires the handling of instruments that may have been contaminated by blood or other body fluids. In compliance with Occupational Safety and health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Aesculap will provide a safe working environment for all employees.

Qualifications

Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc

Required:

  • Currently enrolled full time in an undergraduate program with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or other relevant field. (Junior year preferred)
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • CAD experience preferred.
  • Language Skill: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Desired:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
