The RNA Vaccines team at the Infectious Disease Research Institute is looking for a Research Assistant to aid in the development of new vaccines against emerging and re-emerging viral diseases. The RA will work on a diverse team of biologists, bioengineers, and materials scientists, and will be responsible for executing a wide variety of laboratory tasks and experiments. Laboratory activities may include molecular biology (cloning, PCR, etc.), in vitro studies (cell culture, transfection, western blotting, etc.) and in vivo handling of mice and other small animals for vaccine immunogenicity testing.


  • PCR and molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis
  • Performing immunoassays according to established protocols (western blot, cell staining, ELISPOT, ELISA, etc.)
  • Cell culture and maintenance of multiple cell lines
  • Animal handling (vaccine injections, blood collection)
  • DNA purification, sequencing, and analysis
  • Laboratory inventory stocking and maintenance
  • Data analysis and presentation at internal group meetings
  • Regular communication with research management
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory practice in line with IDRI policies


Required Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA or equivalent, preferably in a biologically-related discipline (biology, immunology, bioengineering, etc.)
  • Interest in infectious disease research
  • Meticulous attention to detail in a hands-on environment
  • Ability for critical thinking, multitasking, meticulous attention to detail and maintaining an organized work schedule
  • Ability to build and maintain dependable and trustworthy working relationships with teammates
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in MS Office and file management

Desired Qualifications:

  • Skills in molecular cloning and molecular biology
  • Experience in a laboratory setting, either in an academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment preferred
  • Animal handling experience
  • Basic bio/immunological assay experience (western blots, ELISA, etc.)
