Position Purpose

To conduct and facilitate research projects addressing a range of topics in protein biochemistry and cell biology, including protein-protein recognition, intracellular trafficking, and signaling pathways. Experimental systems employed could include recombinant protein expression and purification, binding assays, and cellular function models. In laboratory situations, to serve as the general laboratory manager and to coordinate with the core facilities of the Institute for Biomolecular Targeting.

This position is funded by a grant. Continuation is based upon available funds.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Laboratory Management
• Oversees general laboratory operations to ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of equipment and supplies.
• Coordinates the responsibilities of other laboratory members.
• Ensures compliance with rules and regulations related to handling hazardous wastes, radioactivity, and ensures compliance with proper safety procedures.

Research
• Develops research hypotheses and plans appropriate experiments.
• Designs and performs experiments related to the project using sophisticated research techniques.
• Tracks technological developments and incorporates them into experimental plans as appropriate.
• Troubleshoots experimental protocols and techniques as needed.
• Researches literature and consults with other investigators to resolve research bottlenecks.
• Collects, analyzes, and interprets data resulting from experimentation to present findings and conclusions to the principal investigator.

Communication/Presentation
• Prepares and makes oral presentations of research findings at laboratory meetings, conferences.
• Co-authors manuscripts concerning the research project.
• Presents posters or oral presentations at departmental retreats or other meetings where appropriate.

Staff Development
• Supervises and trains students, post-doctoral fellows, and other laboratory staff to meet changing needs of the laboratory.
