The Amgen Postdoctoral Program is committed to providing future scientists with an enriched environment to inspire innovation that will contribute to the development of human therapeutics.

We have an exciting new opening for a postdoctoral researcher at the Higher Order Structure (HOS) group within Amgen. The focus of this role is to develop new HOS methods for the characterization of Bispecific T-cell Engager molecules (BiTEs). BiTEs are fusion proteins consisting of two single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) from two different antibodies. BiTEs therefore can simultaneously bind both T cells and target antigens on cancer cells. The differences in structure and dynamic properties of BiTEs as compared to traditional monoclonal antibodies (mAb's) in combination with the relatively low product concentration present new challenges for the characterization of their biophysical properties.

The successful applicant will perform independent research within the context of a highly collaborative environment and with access to state-of-the-art technologies and resources, including protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics.

The assignment length is expected to be 2 years long with the option to be extended for 1 additional year.

Basic Qualifications

PhD. or Doctorate degree to be completed by December 2019.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Molecular Biology.

Demonstrated expertise in biochemical and biophysical characterizations of proteins, and protein biochemistry.

Record of independent critical thinking and the ability to design, execute, and interpret experiments, as exemplified by peer-reviewed publications.

Research expertise in the study of protein-protein interactions using techniques such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) will be considered an advantage.

Research experience in using phage-display techniques.

Proficiency in scientific data analysis including program suites such as MATLAB.
