The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is one of the nation's leading advocates on behalf of constitutional rights and liberties. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The NYCLU is seeking a full-time organizer for a limited term, from now through January 20, 2021 (the presidential inauguration day) for voter engagement (through November 3) and protest monitoring work (after November 3). The organizer will engage in organizing and advocacy to increase voter turnout (Get Out the Vote or GOTV) and protest monitoring.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist organizers by supporting NYCLU's ongoing Voter Engagement work, including:

o Facilitating GOTV calls by NYCLU volunteers.

o Moderating slack channel to increase volunteer participation between GOTV calls.

o Facilitating trainings for phone banking and running virtual phone banks.

o Conducting 1:1s with volunteers to identify leaders and bring volunteers up the ladder of engagement.

o Working on volunteer canvassing initiatives, including phone banking and text banking.

o Providing additional support for GOTV activities as needed.

Assist NYCLU organizers in organizing NYCLU's Protest Monitoring Program, including:

o Recruiting protest monitor volunteers via NYCLU's volunteer sign-up system.

o Assisting in setting up trainings for protest monitors and legal volunteers.

o Supporting with day-to-day volunteer and member communications and coordination as needed.

o Updating training materials and ensuring that protest monitors receive gear and any supplies needed.

o Scheduling shifts for protest monitors and legal volunteers for shifts.

o Providing support on the ground to protest monitors.

o Gathering and tracking footage and documentation submitted by protest monitors.

o Facilitating communications between protest monitors on the ground and legal support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent engagement skills and the ability to communicate and relate to persons from a diversity of backgrounds.

Experience with direct action, willingness to be on the ground at protests.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong commitment to public interest advocacy and civil liberties, including to supporting the right to vote and the right to protest.

Ability to manage time and tasks independently and under pressure.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Experience in canvassing.

Experience in facilitation.
