JOB SUMMARY:  The Network Engineer II - Telecom participates in a vast range of operational and change management activities related to Eatels infrastructure.  This role assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems, and applies a broad range of skills and experience to work independently and as a part of a team to maintain the highest levels of network availability and performance.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include but are not limited to)



  • Responsible for supporting all network hardware components, network operating systems, performance network availability, patch management and security updates according to standards and current best practices

  • Performs installation, configuration and upgrades to network routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN terminators and any other types of network and transport infrastructure in both LAN and WAN environments

  • Works in a high availability data center environment and in the areas of system backup, customer network installation, performance monitoring/tuning, security monitoring, network capacity management, user technical support, general network trouble-shooting and infrastructure maintenance

  • Responsible for ensuring availability of both customer network connectivity and access to the production server environment in accordance with documented SLAs for clients

  • Works in a variety of critical network platforms and protocols including Cisco, Juniper, Riverbed, Coyote Point, F5, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, VRF, and SNMP

  • Performs network problem troubleshooting, including a cooperative work effort with the server group and support desk

  • Participates in efforts in the identification of network security issues, as well as the design and implementation of effective solutions

  • Assists with configuration, maintenance and upkeep of several enterprise class network environments

  • Performs required software maintenance, including installation and upgrades of products and NOSs, at the customer level

  • Coordinates testing by users in preparation for installations and upgrades to live system

  • Manages production problems when they occur, escalates issues to the proper support personnel when situations arise

  • Meets deadlines while maintaining attention to detail

  • Other duties as assigned



KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:



  • Network-related Professional level certification required (CCNP, JNCIA, etc)

  • Real-world network experience

  • Solid understanding of change management concepts and practices

  • Outstanding ability to perform logical troubleshooting in pressure situations

  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and LAN/WAN

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Attention to detail and quality

QUALIFICATIONS & PREREQUISITES


Required (All Levels):



  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a well-rounded technical background

  • Experience supporting complex computing environments

  • Outstanding ability to perform logical troubleshooting in pressure situations



Preferred (All Levels):



  • Extensive knowledge of networking technology

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science

  • Ability to work in a multi-vendor and multiple-network environment

  • Knowledge of various Linux OS

  • Experience with DWDM, CWDM and/or MPLS

  • Ability to teach or coach members of the team

  • Experience in telecommunications industry



 


Required:


Network Engineer II



  • 5+ years of experience in supporting complex network infrastructure environments



 


Preferred:


Network Engineer II



  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science

  • Moderate understanding of the protocols and technologies including, but not limited to: TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, STP, SIP, MPLS, HSRP, LDAP, DHCP, DNS, VRFs.

  • Moderate understanding of security concepts including, but not limited to: IDS/IPS, Antivirus, Web-filtering, SSL encrypt/decrypt, two-factor authentication, SSL VPN.

  • Security Certification(s) are a plus

  • Experience with VMWare Network Virtualization

  • Experience with Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS)

  • Experience with Public Cloud Networking:  Azure, AWS, Google

  • 2 Associate or 1 Professional network certification(s) from one of the following: Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
