Fermilab is America's premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.

Fermilab's Core Computing Division is seeking a Network Analyst III. Under general supervision, deploys new network systems; monitors and, evaluates the performance and security, provides technical support, and assists in the analysis of all elements of existing network systems; recommends and implements improvements/upgrades of existing systems, evaluates new network technology, assists with planning, designing and testing new networking systems.

The selected candidate will moderate scope projects or phases of larger projects; problems of moderate and large scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

You Will:
  • Design Configures, implements, integrates, maintains, optimizes, and/or administers network systems, including data, voice and video communications.
  • Assists in planning, defining, recommending, testing, and deploying new network systems.
  • Assists with network analysts of failures or degradation and assists in performing corrective action.
  • Monitors, evaluates performance and security, ensures quality assurance, and assists in the analysis of all elements of existing network systems.
  • Analyzes network workload and monitors network performance.
  • Localizes causes and aids in resolving simple to moderate problems.
  • Installs, tests, maintains, and upgrades network systems software.
  • Recommends and deploys improvement/upgrades of existing systems.
  • Defines and maintains physical network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Communicates with and describes work details and relevant technical matters to management, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Provides consultation to users in the area of network systems as assigned.
  • Responsible for operational and/or maintenance activities for one or more specific areas or projects as assigned.
  • May supervise, instruct, direct, and check the work of others in a group.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Relocation is not available for this position.

We Are Looking For:
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or equivalent in related field of Telecommunication or Networking with a minimum of 10+ years of experience.
  • Professional Level Cisco certifications or equivalent is highly desired.
  • Experience as a network associate engineer or analyst operating and supporting small (2-3+ routers, 10 - 20 switches, a few network appliances) to middle size (5+ routers, 20+ switches, 3 - 10 appliances) networks.
  • Knowledge of data communication and computer networks, network protocols, mathematics, computers, electronics, and programming.
  • Must communicate effectively both in writing and orally
  • Must work cooperatively with a diverse group of professional and scientific
