POSITION SUMMARY

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Billing Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating daily billing functions by performing charge entry and communicating with the revenue cycle teams. The Billing Coordinator processes all patient accounts in order to procure payments from third party and patient pay accounts. This position ensures that patient demographic, medical and insurance billing information is complete and accurate. The position also performs charge entry and communicates with the revenue cycle teams to complete the billing process as necessary. The Billing Coordinator investigates deficiencies, analyzes information obtained, and resolves as necessary to obtain accurate and complete billing information.

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Billing Coordinator position also coordinates a wide variety of patient and information flow from physician offices, and is responsible for understanding the patient registration process as well as the online tools necessary to provide patients with information regarding precertification, referral needs, and authorizations.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of a college based coding program or college based coding certificate program preferred (AHIMA-approved preferred). Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred, Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) or Certified Coding Specialist -- Hospital (CCS-H) preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2-3 of billing/accounts receivable and medical insurance experience required.Minimum 2-3 year health care clerical experience with demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, as well as clinical medicine required. Strong presentation and analytical sills, interpersonal skills including both written and verbal communication skills required. Knowledge of billing systems and Microsoft Office Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting and working at a computer a majority of the time.
