General position summary:

The Marketing Manager manages all aspects of MB&G’s marketing program, in collaboration with MB&G’s senior leadership.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and manages MB&G’s marketing program to accomplish marketing and business development-related aspects of the corporate vision and mission.

  • Thorough understanding of the natural resources consulting sector and ability to quickly learn the specific work products and strategic targets for our three primary lines of business.

  • Supports business development teams for each of the major service groups (i.e., Forestry, Environmental and Geospatial) including development and maintenance of the Client Manager Program, coordinating and facilitating business development meetings, and coordinating business development initiatives.

  • Manages the pursuit process as requested, including RFP tracking and go/no go process. If a go decision is made, leads and manages production of proposal including development of compliance matrix, monitoring writing assignments, managing review process, and final production.

  • Responsible for all business development-related tracking including win and loss metrics, monitoring sites for upcoming solicitations, and logging relevant touchpoints.

  • Implements company’s external communication plan; leads actions related to firm publicity, such as advertisements, press releases, social media campaign and publicity photos.

  • Manages company website content and administration. Regularly posts press releases on website. Monitors analytics for sites and continually improves search engine optimization performance.

  • Develops and administers the marketing budget.

  • Have knowledge of MB&G market sectors, ability to gather data on contracting trends and forecasts, and assist with setting strategic direction for business development activities.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely contract administration.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Conducts debriefs on unsuccessful and successful proposals as directed and provides written reports to Proposal Manager (PM) and Supervising Principal.  

  • Develops and regularly updates (at least annually) the corporate PowerPoint presentation, memorandum, letter and other templates.

  • Develops and ensures corporate branding program is carried out.

  • Provides Executive Team with a list of proposed conferences corporate memberships that would provide the company with high value networking opportunities.

  • Manages promotional elements at conferences, such as trade booths and client giveaways.

  • Coordinates special business development or client events for the company.

  • Manages award entries and publicizes winning projects.

  • Manages program for holiday cards and holiday gifts for clients.

  • Monitors industry-related articles in the media and distributes applicable articles to staff.

  • Supports client contract administration and federal award systems

  • Conducts team training on marketing principles and communication skills

  • Develop marketing staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and training.

  • Independently attend networking events on behalf of MB&G.

  • Actively involved in professional and community organizations including Society for Marketing Professional Services

Interpersonal Contacts:

  • This position requires extensive external contact with clients, teaming partners, vendors, and information sources; as well as extensive internal contact with MB&G staff.

  • Work in a team environment, to complete the marketing-related tasks for the firm.

  • A personable and outgoing person who enjoys networking as a dedicated business development professional.

  • The successful applicant will have an established professional network in the forestry, natural resources or A&E industry.

Job Skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, including ability to produce high-quality proposals and other marketing materials.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills using CRM software, such as Deltek Vision CRM and Outlook CMO, is highly desired.

  • Strong writing skills with a background in preparing modern and original marketing materials and proposals.

  • Advanced editing and proofreading skills.

  • Advanced understanding of marketing fundamentals and business development.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task with competing marketing duties.

  • Proven success in developing winning Federal proposals for professional services.

  • Detail oriented and client service focused.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Public Relations or Communications required.
  • Five or more years of increasing responsibility developing and maintaining marketing strategies, writing proposals, and serving as a business development lead for a professional services consulting firm in natural resources, environmental, or A&E line of business.
  • Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) preferred.
  • Deltek Vision Client Relationship Management (CRM) experience a plus. 

Job Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in our Portland, Oregon, headquarters office. Some travel to conferences and after-hours marketing events will be required. Requires extensive computer use, physical ability to operate a telephone, computer, and sit for extended periods of time; occasionally may lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
