XGEVA (denosumab) is a Q4W, in-office injectable medication for patients with bone metastases from solid tumors and patients with multiple myeloma. XGEVA has been shown to help prevent serious bone problems (e.g. fractures, radiation, etc.) in people with multiple myeloma and when cancer from solid tumors like breast, prostate, or lung cancer spreads to the bone. XGEVA represents more than 25% of the revenue of the US Oncology Business Unit and is a critical asset to Amgen. The US Marketing Team for XGEVA has recently received a significantly increased promotional budget and additional headcount to drive enhanced growth and enable us to achieve our aspiration to serve one million patients.

The Marketing Director, XGEVA US HCP Marketing is a key leadership role on the XGEVA Brand Team. The Marketing Director will report to the Executive Director, XGEVA US Brand Lead, and will be a member of the XGEVA US Leadership Team. This position will impart direct line and cross-functional leadership, excellent teamwork and communication skills, a passion for patients and the business, and a commitment to greatness in leadership, strategy, and carry-through. This role will have multiple direct reports.

Key responsibilities for this role include the following:

Hire, retain, coach, and develop outstanding team members who are engaged, high-performing, and innovative

Build a team culture of high performance, accountability, innovation, and fun within the immediate team, overall brand team, and cross-functional team members

Shape the future of XGEVA's HCP focus through the establishment of a clear vision, strategic imperatives, and compelling behavioral objectives that the team rallies around

Identify and establish clear and robust Key Performance Indicators and lead/lag indicators to measure both strategic and tactical pull-through

Collaborate with all members of the cross-functional team and work in close partnership with the Brand Lead and the Patient/Consumer Marketing Director to deliver high performance

Partner with CD&A to identify outstanding business questions, design and execute relevant primary and secondary market research, uncover key insights, and incorporate insights and findings into plans

Engage in and take full accountability for the HCP marketing work on the brand team while empowering team members to own, deliver, and receive credit for outstanding work

Develop and drive the HCP tactical plan for XGEVA and ensure budget neutrality and spend pull through while building compelling cases for buy-ups to drive performance

Drive and develop highly engaging and motivating creative campaigns, messaging, targeting, segmentation, and all other aspects of the marketing plan for HCPs

Inspire innovation, creativity, and passion by engaging with other brand teams, outside organizations, tradeshows, etc. and bringing new ideas to the team

Oversee all HCP media buys, ad placement, channel pull through and measurement, SEO/SEA strategy, and associated key performance measures and metrics

Establish relationships with all agency partners and coach team members through effective agency management; hold team and agency partners accountable for high quality work, on time and within budget

Demonstrate a sense of shared ownership of overall brand and business unit performance

Own budget and performance accountability for all tactics and initiatives

Live and model Amgen Values and contribute to a welcoming, engaging, and lively environment of industry-leading performance within the team and cross-functional partners

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Marketing experience


Master's degree and 6 years of Marketing experience


Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Marketing experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • History of strong performance, high aptitude, and ability for problem solving
  • Previous direct-line leadership experience or evidence of influential leadership experience
  • Strong technical marketing competencies to include marketplace/HCP analysis, insight generation, segmentation, brand positioning, brand sustainability (campaign/message platform development), and marketing greatness (multi-channel development and metric development/tracking).
  • Strong ability in leading and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication effectiveness; ability to effectively engage, connect, and influence senior management and the sales and marketing organizations
  • Ability to convey and communicate sophisticated information/strategies into simple and impactful plans
  • Strong marketing acuity with a grasp of marketing strategy, market research, segmentation, positioning, and tactical plan development
  • Experience marketing directly to HCPs, with a preference for pharmaceutical experience
  • Track record of developing and executing a wide range of successful online and offline tactics, including digital, print, video, and CRM
  • Experience partnering with advertising agencies to develop and produce engaging creative content
  • Experience working with media agencies and publishers to develop, measure, and optimize effective media plans
  • Ability to translate market research into effective HCP campaigns or programs
