How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

This position supports financial planning and analysis and is responsible for providing forward looking projections so that senior management can make strategic business decisions. The role will work on annuity products producing projections for cash flows, GAAP earnings, and STAT earnings, among other key projection metrics. This individual will work within the team and across departments, such as valuation, pricing, and controllers, to ensure consistent and accurate projections. The individual will play a role in developing a more efficient projection process and lead the transition the underlying models to Prophet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and help review quarterly projections for Cash Flows, GAAP, Stat, RBC, Tax, and Stress, and liaise with other business units to obtain various inputs and maintain consistency across departments
  • Analyze and explain actual-to-plan to and current-to-prior plan variances, identifying potential opportunities and risks
  • Lead the transition to use Prophet models for the plan projection, collaborating with other Brighthouse modeling teams
  • Direct the modification of existing modeling tools to set company-wide capital management strategies, GAAP financial projections, and analysis used by Brighthouse's CFO and Treasurer
  • Maintain strong documentation on modeling processes, improvements, and analysis, consistent with Model Risk Management guidance
  • Effectively lead a team of actuarial students with a collaborative culture. Support students in their actuarial exam progress.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related fields
  • Attained the FSA designation, and has a minimum 5 years of experience in an actuarial field
  • Experience with annuities a plus
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences both verbally and through written documents
  • Ability to develop and implement financial and actuarial models
  • Strong project management skills a plus
  • Proficient with Excel, VBA and actuarial modeling systems (Prophet, MG-ALFA, etc.)
  • Capable of effectively handling multiple long-term projects and short-term ad hoc tasks at the same time
  • Can adjust work resources and deadlines in response to changing business priorities

Key Relationships:
  • Direct Reports/Team : Manage a team of 1-2 actuarial students
  • Other Key Stakeholders : Partners closely with Valuation, Pricing, Controllers, Actuarial Margin Analysis, Treasury, and Model Risk Management
