Amgen's Research and Development (R&D) Business Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools and processes. The team delivers on key initiatives and provides tactical support to ensure R&D scientists and staff receive the goods and services they require, strong analytic support for spend and management of external partners through robust supplier oversight and governance programs.

The Manager, R&D Business Operations functions as a key Supplier Performance Manager (SPM) responsible for executing the supplier management strategy for Amgen's Global and US Medical organization including, but not limited to, publications and medical communications. In this role, will focus on executing key supplier management strategies, finding opportunities for improving process and tools along with monitoring and optimizing spend against supplier sourcing strategies. As a creative problem solver with a get it done approach, will:
  • Develop supplier performance management strategies for the Global Medical organization.
  • Establish fit for purpose expense management strategies to support planning, tracking and reporting.
  • Function as the subject matter authority in consulting with the function to identify, develop and deploy new methodologies for procurement, category and supplier performance management.
  • Develop and maintain Supplier Key Performance Indicators, monitor metrics and advance issues as appropriate.
  • Develop strong reciprocal relationships with internal partners to support and proactively respond to business needs.
  • Build Supplier Governance (fit for purpose) for supplier oversight and develop innovative solutions to elevate strategic value of supplier relationships.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate sourcing and procurement guidelines and lead all aspects of the contract to pay process.
  • Partner with functional leads to run external spend strategy and support annual budget forecasting and estimate projections.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to support R&D wide sourcing, procurement and productivity initiatives.


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

AND

Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in biology, life sciences, health, medical or clinical sciences along with additional education in finance or business.
  • Five years experience in publications and medical communication within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Familiarity with Good Publication Practice including ICH/GCP and ICMJE industry guidelines.
  • Familiarity with multiple sourcing models (Fee-for-service, dedicated resource, functional service provider).
  • Experience with analytics software (Microsoft Access, SPSS, Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet), document management applications, portfolio planning tools, supply chain and financial systems (Planisware, Veeva, SAP, Ariba).
  • Finance and budget management experience including cost analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proven ability in navigating a matrixed organization and developing collaborative internal and external relationships.
  • Experience as an "integrator" across multiple organizations, teams and processes with proven ability to advance strategic imperatives.
  • Strong planning, leadership and project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects.
  • Experience managing virtual teams and using collaborative tools and platforms (SharePoint).
  • Being able to adapt work and communication styles to meet organization needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects with minimal supervision and minimal administrative support.
