Job Summary: The Manager of Private Events is responsible for overseeing the private rentals at York Street. Leading a dynamic sales team through all aspects of the sales process including sales, execution, negotiation, overcoming objections, and revenue goals. This role will also be responsible for selling and servicing events including internal organization meetings. This role must showcase both managerial level accountability while also being able to flex into administrative responsibilities when necessary, maintaining high levels of customer service and guest experience. This person will train and manage sales associates and lead logistical coordination as well as being the main lead onsite during event season. In addition to servicing events, responsibilities also include being on-call during assigned events or certain dates. Must maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate night, early morning, some holiday, and weekend work.

Compensation: $1615.38-1730.77 biweekly ( annualized $42,000-$45.000) + Commission


  • Five + years of proven sales and leadership in private events with a minimum of that being 3 years of direct sales team management and execution. Experienced in high volume, multi-event space location. Associate Degree or higher preferred. Knowledge of Vantix ATMS+, Caterease, Microsoft Products, and Social Tables is preferred. Must maintain a flexible schedule and be available early mornings, night, weekends, and holidays depending on events schedule. Must have strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills and the ability to listen effectively and exercise diplomacy. Position requires a valid driver's license, insurable driving record and incumbent must have their own reliable car.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Consistently meeting or exceeding sales goals via team leadership as well as conducting on-site and off-site sales calls which includes driving to and from appointments.
  • Promptly responds to inquiries including but not limited to phone calls, e-mails, and drop-in site visits as well as scheduling and executing site visits and final walkthroughs.
  • Maintain an active role on the sales and distribution of leads, contract generation and review, and sales pipeline.
  • Must exercise effective listening, communication, and perform diplomacy with internal and external customers and staff in all situations.
  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships to increase return sales business. Maintain high-level customer service and guest experience throughout the event process.
  • Evaluating all event logistics to make sure details are being executed to the fulfilment of the Gardens expectations, contract requirements, and the client expectations.
  • Coordinate all assigned internal meetings/events.
  • Promotes a positive perception of the Gardens through the development and fostering of relationships with including but not limited, clients, vendors, and industry professionals.
  • Establishes a positive and productive team culture.
  • Responsible for assigned aspects of sales team supervision including, but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, development, disciplinary action, approving timesheets, approval/denial of subordinates' vacation requests, mentoring, and scheduling.
  • Attend a variety of meetings to represent the Private Events team, as well as one on one meetings with sales staff. Providing regular updates to the Associate Director of Private Events.

Other Job Duties:

  • Assists with physical event set-up when needed.
  • Occasionally, makes trips offsite for departmental needs.
  • Works with the Operations Department to ensure all equipment used for private events is clean and fully operational. If deficits are identified, work with Operations Department to remedy.
  • Works with all departments to assure highest quality experience for all DBG visitors.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management including by not limited to helping with public events.
  • Establish strong working relationships with vendors who service events at the Gardens including but not limited to preferred and approved caterers, planners/DMCs, entertainment, rental/decor providers, and florists.
