Reporting to the Director of Global Quality, this is a leadership role to identify, plan, direct and implement a global supplier quality vision and strategy for MSA. Specifically, this position will develop and implement quality strategies for best in class supplier performance. The successful candidate will partner MSA with suppliers who can demonstrate commitment to safety and sustainability and excellence in their quality system, process capability, product specificity, supply chain security, delivery reliability and total cost.

These strategies will ensure MSAs ability to meet its factory demand plans and therefore our customers evolving expectations. This position will also drive consistent, disciplined use of the global standards, processes and tools developed to support quality strategies and ensure the consistent quality of MSA products throughout their lifecycle, including enabling effective resolution of inquiries related to supplied parts quality.   • Develops a global sourcing partnership approach with counterparts across our regions
  • Manages and maintains positive supplier relationships
  • Maintains a rolling global supplier quality audit plan detailing who, when, where and how to execute
  • Nominates which suppliers warrant supplier scorecard program involvement
  • Audits Supplier Handbook compliance in our vendor base and participates in cadence reviews of the document
  • Standardizes use of iAuditor with our suppliers and develops the best practices around it
  • Identifies supplied part continuous improvement opportunities and drives the team towards achievement using well defined project charters and scope statements
  • Supports material cost reduction efforts in collaboration with Global Sourcing
  • Drives supplier business process improvements, enhancing technology and drive to Quality 4.0
  • Promotes the MSA Operating System and its tool
  • Personal training and development
  • Provides oversight on supplier identification, vetting, and selection sign off - manages to an effective supplier selection RACI chart with other key functional leaders
  • Directs 3D NPD Gate Support activities with new and existing suppliers
  • Drives the ethos of APQP / SPAP preventive quality through skilled execution of those tools within the team
  • Leads SQN resolution, provides overall SQN management, and oversight globally
  • Provides training and support for plant-based supplier quality resources and their local initiatives
  • Participates in quality connect meeting participation with all manufacturing locations
  • Shares responsibility with site Quality Managers to harmonize Ship to Stock certified vendors
  • Acts as a coordinator for Stop Ship Supplier driven root causes
  • Promotes a safety first and people first culture
  • Provides management and leadership on a global basis to quality resources focused on supplier development
  • Ensures professional development within the supplier quality team continually developing skills, knowledge and expertise


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning methods
  • Strong Continuous Improvement/Lean experience and mindset with demonstrated track record of problem solving
  • Advanced knowledge of ISO9001 and associated industry specific standards
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated through communication style and engagement, and the ability to influence
  • Understanding of global cost management of people resources, their tools and their travel costs in pursuit of global supplier excellence
  • Ability to travel 10-30% of the time, domestic and international

Education and Experience Required:

  • 10 years of experience in Quality planning, principles and tools
  • 5 or more years of management/leadership experience
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing and process quality
  • Project management experience including; tracking, planning, working with large data sets, and making data-driven analytical decisions
  • BS in technical, engineering, business field or other related degree

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in a global/manufacturing multi-site organization
  • Six Sigma certification
  • MS, MBA or advanced degree
