Position Summary: The Manager, Foundation Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts from foundation prospects with a giving capacity of $10,000 and greater.  Managing a portfolio of more than 100 prospects, the Manager will identify prospects through prospect research tools, seek discovery for affinity through networking and appointments, and develop a relationship that leads to a solicitation for ideastream programs and services.

Essential Duties

  • Manage a diversified portfolio of more than 100 non-corporate foundation prospects in various stages of giving prospect, active giving, lapsed giving

  • Engage prospects in events and volunteer opportunities in order to build affinity

  • Maintain an activity level of an average of three face-to-face appointments each week with prospects in varying stages of moves management discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

  • Solicit gifts using multiple methods in person, written proposals, online submissions

  • Secure $1,500,000 in financial support for national broadcast programming, local production support, and general operating support

  • Retain active donors through effective stewardship strategies

  • Effectively use prospect management database and research resources

  • Participate in the writing of proposals, presentations to funders

  • Attend and engage in ideastream special events for donors

  • Manage development and stewardship communication cycle for assigned portfolio

  • Participate in fundraising professional activities to stay current with trends in the field

  • Participate in professional activities to stay current with trends in the field

  • Participate in coordinated pledge campaigns as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Excellent oral, written communication, interpersonal, relationship building and presentation skills

  • Ability to cultivate strong, positive relationships, work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to meet project deadlines

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and detail oriented

  • Adept at tracking and meeting deadlines

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel and Power Point



  • Moderate level of sales, marketing or nonprofit development experience

  • Experience managing a prospect portfolio with revenue expectations

  • Experience in a nonprofit development/fundraising setting

  • Experience in writing grants and proposals

  • Experience in using a prospect management database, Allegiance a plus.



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or related field

  • Masters degree preferred


Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

  • Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and work at a computer workstation. Work is in an open office environment where some noise and distraction is typical.

  • Must be able to travel throughout the region to foundations and other locations for meetings.
