Overview

The Bulk Machine Operator III is responsible for pre-op setup, break relief of operators, and minor preventive maintenance of food packaging equipment at the Distribution Center for Natural Grocers. Machinery includes VFFS baggers, labelers, case sealers, conveyors and band sealers. This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00am 4:30pm.



Responsibilities

1. Learns and performs the tasks of all non-lead positions in the automated production room.

2. Provides break and lunch relief for machine operators, material handlers, and support positions. This includes:

a. Setting up and adjusting processing and packaging machines for daily operation

b. Converting raw material into finished goods according to production schedule

c. Maintaining standard efficiency and accuracy with machine operation and packaging

d. Verifying accuracy of all labels and finished packages

e. Maintaining shift logs for changeovers, cleaning, product specifications, and downtime

f. Performing routine cleaning, corrective adjustments, and troubleshooting

g. Operating electric pallet jack and automated pallet wrapper

h. Keeping production lines stocked with packaging materials to maintain flow

i. Performing pre-op setup for the following production week

j. Providing vacation relief as needed for machine operators and support staff positions

3. Assists with routine maintenance on production equipment

a. Performs weekly and monthly preventive maintenance as scheduled

b. Performs minor repairs, parts replacement, and troubleshooting

c. Assists with organization and inventory of equipment parts room

d. Reports all problems with machinery to Production Supervisor or Lead

4. Performs all tasks in a manner that promotes safety of crew members

5. Performs all tasks in compliance with Food Safety standards

6. Follow all SSOP's, Allergen and HACCP standards.

Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be hands on and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.




Qualifications

  1. Minimum 2 plus years recent experience in operating and maintaining food production machinery
  2. High School degree or equivalent is required
  3. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in food production preferred
  4. Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and concisely required
  5. Must be able to meet daily and weekly deadlines
  6. Must have good attention to detail, including accuracy and thoroughness
  7. Basic computer skills required
  8. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  9. Must be team-oriented and flexible to changing demands
  10. Ability to work with others in a fast-paced team environment
  11. Must be reliable and on time every day
  12. Able to work in seasonally warm or cool environment
  13. Powered industrial equipment experience required, with ability to obtain NGVC certification on electric pallet jack, forklifts, and scissor lift.
