Position Purpose

Responsible for managing the public and staff computing needs at Dartmouth Biomedical Libraries. Working in coordination with Biomedical librarians and staff, ensures the hardware, software, and web enviroments of the Biomedical Libraries meet the needs of the Geisel School of Medicine, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) and other programs, in support of research, scholarship, education, and patient care in the health and life sciences.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Independently identifies problems quickly and either effectively resolves them or refers them to appropriate person for resolution; maintains a high level of user satisfaction and professionalism in a sometimes stressful environment. (20%)
  • Maintains Biomedical Libraries website in conjunction with the Biomedical Libraries Web Committee and the Dartmouth Libraries Digital Libraries Technology Group. (15%)
  • Communicates with Biomedical Libraries' staff about computing needs; installs, tests, and maintains the optimal configurations to fill their workflow needs, including computing hardware, software, networking, and peripheral equipment. (10 %)
  • Oversees the installation, testing, evaluation, and maintenance for public computers at all Biomedical Libraries locations, including upgrades and proposed new software configurations. (10%)
  • Maintains and reviews inventory records for all computing equipment, software and supplies; recommends replacements based on standard cycle for each operating system. (10%)
  • Collaborates and maintains relationships with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Geisel and Dartmouth College IT staff in order to achieve the highest level of service to faculty, staff and students at the Biomedical Libraries. (10%)
  • Provides hardware/software training to library users and staff. (10%)
  • Establishes, documents, and maintains procedures and processes for Biomedical Libraries staff. (10%)
  • Keep current on industry technology trends, as well as Dartmouth-specific trends and needs. (5%)
