HX5 is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join our team in Fort Walton Beach, Florida at Eglin Air Force Base to provide acquisition program engineering expertise to the division (EBZ) in support of weapons system independent market research analysis on Government, industry, DoD Laboratories, and coalition partner weapons concepts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizes and executes industry day events; assesses technology readiness for insertion into future weapons acquisition strategies; provide engineering characterization of weapon concepts and performance attributes; develop and assess platform integration requirements.

  • Develops and maintains schedules of integrated project activities, and provide engineering and notional test input to capability development strategies

  • Assesses the acquisition and rapid prototyping considerations for future kinetic and directed energy weapons leveraging state of art technologies where there is no legacy weapon equivalent and where a legacy weapon could be modified to provide the desired capability

  • Briefs products based on Government Program Manager direction to support unique higher headquarters capability needs where no prior template exists and little to no higher headquarters guidance is available.

  • Under Government Program Manager direction, considers trade space analyses from the perspective of the Air Force Program Executive Officer for Weapons equities


Education and Experience

  • BS and MS Engineering (ABET accredited) and fifteen (15) years relevant experience; or Ph.D. and five (5) years of relevant experience.

    • ABET accredited.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the organizational mission and interfaces with intelligence, Major Commands, Air Staff, DoD laboratories, and support agencies

  • Effective communication and presentation skills both orally and in writing

  • Ability to negotiate and deal with customers and to advise management using a high degree of tact and diplomacy



Experience with the following: 

  • DoD weapons systems acquisition; Analysis of Alternatives; capability gap analysis; requirements development and verification support.

  • Experience in engineering or program management of DoD acquisition programs.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the organizational mission and interfaces with intelligence, Major Commands, Air Staff, DoD laboratories, and support agencies.

Must be a US citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.


Must have an active Top-Secret clearance.


Must be able to travel as required (est. <25%) and able to rent/operate rental cars while on travel.


Must be able to work varied/flexible hours as needed.
