Position Purpose

To assist the Digital Platforms Manager and Archives Specialist on the description, preservation, and accessibility of one of the most significant bodies of work of a single photojournalist. Ensures that the museum and the archive are adhering to best practices in archival stewardship. Assists the museum in the creation of broad archival strategy for future projects.

• Survey Nachtwey material (analog and born digital). - 20%
• Create series level finding aid. - 20%
• Rehouse fragile or at-risk material. - 10%
• Upload Nachtwey material to archival database. - 15%
• Work with Digitization Technician to scan and describe material. - 5%
• Provide reference services for archival inquiries. - 5%
• Scope out web presence for archive. - 5%
• Catalog James Nachtwey original prints. - 5%
• Participate in strategic planning for archive. - 5%
• Consult with photographic archives and institutions to discuss best practices in advocacy for museum archival collections. - 5%
