Provides technical assistance to HPA employees and students in the areas of computer hardware, printers, tablets, and applications support. Works individually on solutions, but frequently will coordinate and collaborate with others in IT to diagnose and implement. Provides assistance by answering questions or resolving computer/connectivity issues in person, by email, by telephone.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support

  • Maintain and deploy Chromebook, iPad, Mac OS and/or Windows fleets for bulk testing, student loaning, and school-wide events.
  • Deploy, setup, diagnose, and repair, any and all workstations, and printers for HPA employees.
  • Create and maintain Mac OS X images on our LAN for imaging deployment.
  • Setup, configure, license, manage, troubleshoot, diagnose and deploy SmartBoard.
  • Mobile device management using JAMF and Chrome Management.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment including but not limited to Apple, Android, Chromebook, and Windows hardware/software, printers, peripherals, and other devices.
  • Assist business office in troubleshooting campus-wide high volume copiers/print/fax/scan.
  • Purchase, manage and deploy approved vendor software requests to include but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.

Customer Service

  • Initial responder to technical issues and elevate if unable to resolve.
  • Answer employee and student inquiries and provide technical support and troubleshooting of desktop, laptop and tablet systems hardware technical and software, printers, and mobile devices
  • Assist users in resetting passwords and computer login.
  • Diagnose student-owned devices; coordinate warranty and repair of boarding student warrantied laptops.

Networking

  • Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Meraki wireless access points on both campuses, dorms, and special events.
  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot unmanaged switches and internet connectivity issues on all campuses.
  • Support network engineers in troubleshooting managed switches on all campuses.
  • Build, repair, maintain and diagnose small scale internal cat 5e cabling as needed.
  • Administrator and manage backups of infrastructure critical data via Apple/Windows Server to external hard drives and/or Storage Area Network.

Internal Processes

  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and hardware purchased and deployed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of repair practices, policies, and technical specifications of computer hardware, software, web applications, warranty, devices, peripherals.
  • Document services requests, issues, and resolutions in an internal ticketing system.
  • Assist other IT Department members and complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

Supplies

  • Maintain par of consumables and accessories including but not limited to dongles, external DVD players, external hard drives, printer ink, cabling, monitors for immediate availability.
  • Maintain spare parts.

  • Regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Driving between campuses, and running short errands in town.
  • Occasional work includes working under desks and in network closets.
  • Be able to work at a computer, sitting and typing for several hours a day.

  • Active learner who understands the implications of new information/facts for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively to persons with various levels of technical ability and experience
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record with at least 2 years of driving experience and insurable.
  • Must work in the Island of Hawaii; this is not a remote position.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • 2 years of relevant technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Prior school-related IT support experience.
  • Apple and/or CompTIA A+ certification or the ability to get one within 3 months preferred.
  • Positive personality and the ability to remain calm under pressure
