Position Purpose

Individuals within the Infrastructure Engineer role are responsible for the automated operations of secure and highly available applications, computing platforms, servers, and storage systems. Working as part of a highly motivated team they, install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve the College's operating environments on-premises and with various cloud service providers. They maintain the ongoing automation, reliability, performance, and support of the infrastructure which includes automated configuration management, monitoring, responding to incidents, problems and planning for growth.

Infrastructure Engineers deploy the release of new technologies as well as design, install, configure, maintain and perform testing of applications, server operating systems, networks, and related utilities and hardware. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting problems as reported by users, supporting system access and maintaining a secure systems environment. They also provide modern infrastructure solutions based on application needs and anticipated growth, install new systems and maintain the infrastructure utilizing automation tools. It is essential that candidates for this position be continuously advancing their knowledge of emerging technology, be curious and be committed to automation and quality improvement.

Infrastructure Engineers need effective communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with clients, technical colleagues, and vendors. Individuals work across all functional areas of the College and use a strong customer service orientation to ensure that all service requests and incidents are resolved in a professional manner. They share their expertise and provide individual training and support.

  • Maintains, monitors, and supports the application infrastructure environment.
  • Supports multiple applications/systems of various complexity (complexity defined
    by size, the technology used, and system feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility.
  • Coordinates and works on multiple cross-functional work initiatives and projects.
  • Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware, software, and connectivity problems.
  • Acts as the technical liaison between operations teams, engineers, and architects, providing critical operational insight to upcoming implementations and strategies, including validation of ongoing solutions supportability.
  • Integrates solutions with other applications and platforms based on system requirements.
  • Applies automation, configuration management, and automation skills to analyze current operations and drive toward increased team effectiveness.
  • Works with other infrastructure and development teams to create and deploy scripted solutions and automation.
  • Collaborates with other engineers and architects to create and maintain tools, technologies and automated processes that enable a DevOps environment.
  • Employs technical skills to both operationalize and maintain a toolset that drives efficiency and consistency across the support of College's systems and applications
  • Communicates events and planned improvements to stakeholders, IT teams, and leadership.
  • Participates in a rotating 247365 on-call rotation and may be required to work outside of normal business hours to support production critical applications/systems.
