POSITION SUMMARY The Infection Control Data Analyst collaborates with department personnel to lead data collection, aggregation, reporting, analyses and scorecard management. This role is responsible to manage Infection Prevention database operations and ensure accurate and timely reporting to various internal stakeholders and external regulatory organizations. The Data Analyst performs all monthly case and denominator reporting to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network and ensures regulatory reporting requirements are met. The Data Analyst uses appropriate statistical methodologies to summarize and prepare reports to convey findings. The Data Analyst is also responsible for management of all communicable disease, STD, and syndromic surveillance reporting databases and performs tasks such as identifying and reporting cases as well as reviewing treatment for patient follow-up reporting. The Infection Control Data Analyst manages the hand hygiene program. The position coordinates with department leaders to develop messaging for staff and set hand hygiene targets, mentors hospital unit managers and leaders in hand hygiene process improvement methods, and delivers department-specific and new employee education related to hand hygiene. Additionally, this position works with the IT Department to effectively operate an internal hand hygiene data collection application. The Infection Control Data Analyst oversees the hand hygiene observation staff and is responsible for training new hand hygiene observers, resolving hand hygiene application IT related inquiries and ensuring accurate observation data is collected from staff. The Infection Control Data Analyst leads hand hygiene quarterly meetings and presents and disseminates hand hygiene compliance data and trends to internal stakeholders monthly and as needed. The data analyst manages all department interns& volunteers by setting schedules, working to implement projects, and help them produce requested deliverables based on department needs. The Data Analyst facilitates the Infection Prevention Committee Meetings, coordinating membership, participation and correspondence. The Clinical Data Analyst performs general administrative functions to support the operations of the department and may be asked to lead and manage special projects, as assigned by the Manager. The Clinical Data Analyst also serves as the webmaster for the department portal site, managing and updating all content. Responsibilities also include quality control to meet regulatory requirements, education, consultation, leadership, and stewardship within the organization. The qualified candidate must possess flexibility to cover emergencies and receive critical test results for communicable diseases; inter-campus travel may be indicated. Must be able to coordinate and prioritize job tasks to assure timely processing and reporting, and must be able to work at a fast pace with changing and difficult situations. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in public health or health sciences or a closely related field required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: None required. EXPERIENCE: Some experience in infection prevention-related activities (public health, microbiology, healthcare). Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) at time of hire; skill with developing and using database, spreadsheet, and statistical applications, minimum two years' experience. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping and crouching a majority of the workday. This position requires lifting up to 20 pounds frequently. Works with such equipment as computer terminal, fax machine, printer and copier. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to department leadership.
