Position Overview:

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for supporting the Human Resources Department in promoting our core value: Engagement. This individual will manage all tier one associate relations and must be available as needed to exercise independent, objective judgment to select and/or recommend the most appropriate course of action. The Human Resources Manager is involved in the day-to-day operations of the local Human Resources office by planning, conducting, and coordinating the development, administration, and communication of HR programs and initiatives. The Human Resources Manager carries out responsibilities/participation in the following functional areas: associate relations, staffing and recruitment, training and development, compliance, departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), compensation, and benefits.

Reporting to the Director, this position will seek and implement ways to expand upon our associate engagement offerings while also planning, managing, and executing our current associate-focused activities. The Human Resources Manager makes proposals for new initiatives then executes and evaluates these initiative outcomes. This individual is passionate about associate engagement and cultivating a culture which allows associates to thrive. This position continually seeks opportunities for enhancement, efficiencies, and increased participation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Live ALCs core values: Integrity, Compassion, Engagement, and Team Player.
  • Provide associates, supervisors, and managers with advice and recommendations to settle all work-related conflicts for non-union weekly associates.
  • Partner with Shift Coaches to coordinate the staffing necessary to meet production demand.
  • Maintain a strong co-employment relationship with appropriate local staffing agencies to ensure the right people are available at the right time.
  • Manage, evaluate, and further develop the recruitment process for all non-union weekly (direct and contract) associates:
    1. Conduct interviews
    2. Complete reference/background checks
    3. Direct pre-employment screening
  • Manage, evaluate and further develop the on-boarding process for all non-union weekly associates:
    1. New hire paperwork, orientation, and training.
  • Prepare and present associate communication for programs, processes, and procedures within Human Resources and other areas as assigned.
  • Administer and provide information for all non-union weekly associates Family Medical, Military and Personal leaves of absence, including ADAAA.
  • Administer and participate in all non-union weekly associates state specific unemployment claims/hearings.
    • Coordinate and manage La Porte facility training, including but not limited to: Strengths Based learning, compliance, and continuing education
    • Lead, manage, and maintain accountability for associate engagement programs and activities, including local promotion of annual engagement survey participation
    • Track key metrics of initiative progression and adjust strategy to achieve goals
    • Coach and mentor associates to develop their strengths.
  • Complete all exit interviews and coordinate all separation details.
  • Coordinate associate events/celebrations i.e. birthday, anniversary, new birth, family day, picnic and holiday party.
  • Responsible for Food Safety as related to position.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to ALCs core values: Integrity, Compassion, Engagement, and Team Player
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or Organizational Leadership and Supervision preferred; Human Resources experience may be substituted for education
  • Three to five years experience in a Human Resources generalist role
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage several tasks at the same time
  • Understanding of employee engagement principles, theories, and concepts
  • Have flexibility in schedule to attend or participate in company events
  • Strong computer skills, HRIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other web based programs
  • Possess basic knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
  • Approximately 15% travel

Qualifications:

  • Effective public speaking skills with ability to present material in an impactful and understandable way.
  • Desire and ability to coach, mentor, and develop associates across all levels of the organization.
  • Exhibit a positive and approachable demeanor with high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Problem solve, investigate and recommend solutions that minimize liability/risk to ALC.
  • Knowledge of recruitment, selection, applicant hiring, orientation and training processes.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment regulations/legislation.
  • Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP credential preferred
