Amgen Contract Manufacturing (ACM) is part of Amgen's Operations Organization. This organization is uniquely positioned within Amgen's Operations to provide end-to-end commercial and clinical supply along with technology transfer integration across the manufacturing network.

ACM is a multi-product, multi-site operation which delivers clinical, commercial and biosimilar products, playing a vital role in Amgen's biologics and synthetic oral solid dosage manufacturing network. This internship offers the opportunity to collaborate with multiple functions within the Operations and Supply Chain dynamic environment (Suppliers/Vendors, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Process Development, Process Engineering, Regulatory Compliance, etc.), while developing a deep understanding of the material flow, product supply and planning activities.

This role provides development opportunities in the following areas:
  • Core Supply Chain knowledge - provide learnings in the areas of vendor relations, material procurement and data integration
  • Dynamic, matrixed organization and collaboration - the ACM team collaborates with a broad array of partners on a routine basis, providing visibility to those other areas of the business and how these functions work together to meet organizational goals
  • Operational efficiency and business skills application - provides an opportunity to apply project planning and technical skills to Amgen's manufacturing operations, while also learning new skills in the areas of lean transformation, operational excellence, scheduling and planning, root cause analysis and problem solving, financial planning and budgeting
  • Performance visibility and data integration development - in addition to product delivery, a key aspect of ACMs operations is enabling digital development - accessing and providing visibility to electronic data to drive business improvement and productivity. This aspect of the role would be collaborating with partner functions to enable new ways of data gathering and presentation for performance management across the manufacturing process, scheduling and business processes


In this role the Manufacturing Intern will:
  • Serve as a liaison between the manufacturing business community and the organization in order to provide technical solutions to meet user needs
  • Possess expertise in the manufacturing business unit(s) they support, as well as, an understanding of the ACMs technology organization's systems and capabilities
  • Analyze business partner's operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine opportunities to improve process flows
  • Translate high level manufacturing business requirements into functional specifications for the ACM organization and manages changes to such specifications
  • Negotiate agreements and commitments by facilitating communication between manufacturing business unit(s) from initial requirements to final implementation
  • Possess an understanding of technological trends and uses this knowledge to bring solutions to business units supported to enhance the enterprise's competitive edge


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a MBA program for a MBA internship OR a Master's program for a Masters internship from an accredited college or university
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree Concentration(s) in Business Administration, Engineering, or Science-related field
  • Experience with Value Stream Maps, MiniTab, JMP, Spotfire, big data technology is a plus
