Relocation in the form of a transportation allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Applicants will be provided the opportunity to actively participate bioanalytical, biochemical and biophysical characterization of antibody-based biosimilars. The candidate will work closely with an analytical group to design, evaluate, optimize and qualify assays using the SPR-platform (Surface Plasmon Resonance, such as the Biacore™ SPR systems). The candidate will also be responsible for analyze experimental data and assure careful documentation of resultant information.

Responsibilities and opportunity to learn include (but are not limited to):
  • Developing and implementing state-of-the-art and fit-for-purpose analytical methods for: Kinetics and affinity determination, binding site mapping, competition analysis, etc. for the characterization/optimization of antibody-based biosimilars
  • Generating, analyzing, and interpreting analytical data to support: method development and qualification and sample tests for biosimilar products
  • Compiling analytical data, performing data analysis and interpretation, preparing technical reports, and giving oral presentation at internal or external meetings
  • Keeping current in analytical development field including literature and technology development for bioanalytical assays for antibody-based biologics R&D


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first-year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a master's program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentrations in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular and Cell Biology

The co-op is expected to have a Bachelor's/Master's degree in a biology-related discipline and laboratory-based experience either as school courses work or industrial interns/co-ops. Ability to demonstrate a track record of initiative, creativity, organization and independent performance of lab-based research projects.
  • Proven track record of lab-based research projects, ideally in developing assays for monoclonal antibodies using all or any of the following techniques: Biacore, Octet, AlphaScreen and ELISA
  • Strong hands-on experience with the development and qualification of biochemical and biophysical-based assays
  • Troubleshoot method and instrumentation problems; proactive in solving technical problems
  • Highly organized and efficient record keeping
  • Ability in multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high degree of self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - communicate effectively and be a team-player
