Position Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The family of Financial Officer positions is responsible for marketing and promoting all of the Associations’ core products to assigned part time farmer and landlord customer segment, as well as for building holistic relationships with customers and prospects. Advise customers in determining the best products to meet their financial needs. The incumbent will be highly organized and develop an in-depth understanding of each customer and prospect's current financial position and operational plan in order to provide innovative and workable product and service alternatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

 All Levels – (unless otherwise specified)

  1. Within assigned segment, design innovative customer packages to meet customer and prospect needs. Advise customers on the financial information needed. Discuss credit packages with Analysts and participate in consensus decision making process when appropriate. Advise customers of loan decisions and provide expert advice and counsel to the customer related to their financial position and future credit needs. Competitively price loans based on risk and profitability. Service assigned portfolio including satisfying loan conditions/covenants, preparing customer loan service plans, and establishing and maintaining sound credit and loan administration.
  2. Develop and implement business plans that will increase the Association’s market share in the assigned customer segment. Promote and sell loan products to influencers, prospects and customers; routinely update prospect and influencer lists and maintain marketing and call planning information on customer contact software.
  3. Holistically market, cross sell, and actively endorse all of the Associations’ products and services (Magnify, Rural 1st, crop insurance, leasing, digital tools including our WorkSmart bundle, etc.). Assist Insurance Officers, Magnify Territory Managers, Consumer Lending Officers, and Financial Officers serving other customer segments to grow and expand market share.  
  4. Actively support and coordinate an unrivaled customer experience based on our six core customer experience principles and our One Team – One Purpose philosophy. Work in a team environment to accomplish team goals.
  5. Learn, utilize, and embrace technology to improve customer experience, organizational efficiency, and business results. Effectively and proactively use technology to engage customers allowing for efficient servicing of a designated number of customers.
  6. Develop a professional presence within assigned segment through participation in commodity groups and networking with agricultural industry knowledge contacts. Contribute to the Associations’ image as the leading ag financial institution.

    Additional functions of the position may include:

      JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

      All Levels: Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Ag Business, Accounting, Finance, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science or closely related field required.

      Level 20D: A minimum of 0 to 2 years of lending, credit analysis and/or sales experience with a related financial services or agricultural credit organization required. This level is typically an entry level position with the primary focus being a development and learning period. Key focus areas would typically include understanding of our processes, initiating underwriting and selling skills, and building the foundation for a successful Financial Officer career. This officer has limited business development responsibility and portfolio, primarily assisting other Financial Officers.

      Level 21D: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of lending, credit analysis and/or sales experience with a related financial services or agricultural credit organization required. Ability to provide sound coaching and counseling to clients. Demonstrated influence and negotiation skills (loan pricing, loan terms and conditions), credit analysis skills, and knowledge of multiple agricultural industries to assist customers in financial decisions.

      Level 22E: A minimum of 5 to 7 years in lending or credit analysis in a related agricultural credit organization required, including a minimum of 4-6 years of relationship management and/or sales experience. Effectively perform the functions of the job within assigned customer segment with moderate leader involvement. Demonstrates sound influence and negotiation skills in responsibilities such as loan pricing, loan terms and conditions. Possesses sound credit analysis skills with the ability to appropriately structure loan packages and proposals (presenting creative solutions and multiple options based on customer’s needs). Has thorough knowledge of customer needs and product offerings. Demonstrates agricultural expertise including solid knowledge of multiple agricultural industries.

      Level 23E: A minimum of 7-9 years’ experience in lending and credit analysis with a related agricultural credit organization required, including a minimum of 5-7 years of relationship management and/or sales experience. Effectively perform functions of the job with limited leader guidance and assistance.

      Demonstrates proven influence and negotiation skills in responsibilities such as loan pricing, loan terms and conditions. Possesses proven credit analysis skills with the ability appropriately structure loan packages and proposals (presenting creative solutions and multiple options based on customer’s needs). Has expert knowledge of customer needs and product offerings. Demonstrates agricultural expertise including established knowledge of multiple agricultural industries. Possesses the ability to analyze and work with complex multi entity part time customer/investor segment. Ability to negotiate with sophisticated business investor segment. Consistently demonstrates results in the top 50% of Financial Officers serving this customer segment.

      Level 24F: A minimum of 10+ years’ experience in lending and credit analysis with a related agricultural credit organization required, including a minimum of 9 years of relationship management and/or sales experience. Effectively perform functions of the job with limited leader guidance and assistance.

      Demonstrates high-level influence and negotiation skills (loan pricing, loan terms and conditions). Possesses high-level credit analysis skills with the ability to appropriately structure loan packages and proposals (presenting creative solutions and multiple options based on customer’s needs. Demonstrates agricultural expertise including in depth knowledge of multiple agricultural industries. Demonstrates sophisticated level of business acumen and financial skills with the ability to analyze and work with the most complex multi entity part time customer/investor segment. Ability to negotiate with the most sophisticated business investor segment. Demonstrates informal leadership within retail office, including coaching/mentoring other team members as appropriate and championing change. Demonstrates exemplary level team skills with a focus on “team” success. Consistently demonstrates results in the top 20% of Financial Officers serving this assigned customer segment.

      Duties for all levels require:

      • Current insurance licenses.
      • A general working knowledge of the Associations’ processes.
      • Good to exceptional marketing and business development skills balanced with a strong understanding of credit extension, loan administration, and portfolio management.
      • Comprehensive to exceptional knowledge of Farm Credit Services of America/Frontier Farm Credit loan products and services and their applications to meet the assigned customer’s needs.
      • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and their application to credit delivery.
      • Comprehensive to exceptional understanding of finance and farm production methods, products, and profitability.
      • Solid to superior skills in judgment, decisiveness, analysis, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent negotiating and influencing skills.
      • Knowledge of FCA regulations, Association credit policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, and lending office expectations.
      • Maintain a current awareness of social and economic developments and production technology impacting agriculture.
      • Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
      • Proficient in using customer relationship management and loan origination software and other applicable computer systems and software applications.
      • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.

         INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

        Extensive contact with Regional Vice President and retail office staff, Appraisers, Insurance Officers, Credit Underwriting, customers and prospects. Regular contact with Omaha staff, influencer group members, state and regional farm agencies and financial institutions.

         MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

        • Ability to use computer/keyboard/calculator. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
        • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
        • Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate and critique such information as written materials, numerical data, responses to customer needs and/or other work-related activities.
        • Ability to complete work in an acceptable timeframe and manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and with accuracy to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives and satisfy internal and external customer needs related to the job.
        • Ability to understand and explain various subject matters and consult on concepts, programs, terminology and methods.
        • Ability to operate the telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries.
        • Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching and bending.
        • Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, industry specialists, and the public at all levels.
        • Ability to use and understand various computer software programs related to carrying out essential responsibilities of the position.
        • Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation up to 25% same day and 10% overnight travel to carry out essential responsibilities.
