Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Data Collection, Financial Analysis, Financial Modeling & Recommendations

  • Supports operational strategies for the efficient and effective functioning of the financial and administrative activities of SYNERGY and its programs.
  • Provides effective financial analysis, budget monitoring, and outreach for the SYNERGY program and its component parts. In concert with the SYNERGY PI and the SYNERGY Executive Director, develops the annual operating budget, tracks expenditures, and ensures appropriate utilization of funds.
  • Communicates budget information effectively and in a timely manner to administrative staff of departments and centers affected by SYNERGY operations.
  • Collaborates effectively with financial and non-financial staff across the institution in the gathering, modeling, and analysis of financial and operational data. Represents SYNERGY in interactions with the Office of Sponsored Projects, the Controller's office, and pertinent fiscal offices of participating entities.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive information and materials. Maintains manual and computerized records.
    Accounting
  • Prepares and processes payables, deposits, journal transfers, labor distributions, payroll authorizations, and transfers
  • Provides timely and accurate projections to ensure appropriate use of federal and institution funds.

Grant Management and Reporting

  • Manages the overall SYNERGY budget (both NIH and institutional funds), in collaboration with executive director. Supports the annual operating budget and long-range financial planning processes with insightful financial analysis, sound assumptions and estimates, and firm recommendations.
  • Prepares financial reports and updated projections as requested for the PI; assists the Executive Director and SYNERGY leadership in developing relevant financial plans. In budget discussions, provides variance explanations and summarizations of risks and opportunities.
    Other Duties
  • Participates on cross-functional teams by assuming an active, collaborative role.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
