Position:

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Towson University (www.towson.edu/cis) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor. Expected start date is August 2020.

 

Qualifications:

A PhD or comparable terminal degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field.

 

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is looking to expand its offerings in the area of cybersecurity within the information technology (IT) major along with supplementing the computer science major. With existing undergraduate and graduate courses and ongoing research in cybersecurity, a successful candidate will have expertise in teaching and research in network security and advanced networking. We have a particular interest in individuals who are hands-on and can teach applied networking and cybersecurity in general across all our programs.

 

Highly qualified applicants in others areas of Information Technology and Applied Computer Science will be considered as well. We are also particularly interested in candidates with community college experience (teaching and or significant interface in other activities).

 

Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students and participate in department activities. Tenure-track candidates are expected to develop strong research programs and apply for external funding as well. The ideal candidate may be involved in the administration of the community college focused IT major at Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE, http://bit.ly/ 36rXRDP).

 

Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS):

The Department offers six primary programs including: an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, and an ABET-accredited cybersecurity program, a Bachelorof Science degree in Information Systems, a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Applied Information Technology, and a Doctor of Science degree in Information Technology. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences has approximately 43 full-time faculty members, 7 staff members, collectively over 1,700 undergraduate majors in the Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology programs, and approximately 400 graduate students. The Department is placed within the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics. With more than 3,600 undergraduates, 34% of whom are minority students, the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics is one of the fastest growing and most diverse colleges at Towson University.
